Land fall planets.
I don't really understand this aspect of the game. I am playing legacy now. In my navigation tab I saw a bunch of geological sites (don'rt remember the real words) and I asked about it. I was told to buy a dune buggy and go blow stuff up and collect it. It was fun. So I landed on another planet because why not. I have been driving around for an hour looking for stuff but there doesn't seem to be anything there. No alerts to geological anything. I did see a hauler hovering but it was NPC. I looked at the map in my navigation and it says 1 human location which I can't find and major reserves. Am I missing something? I've been following this blip on my sensor forever and had to call my ship because I forgot about gas. I don't understand the point of landing on planets except to do stupid tricks in my little cart. Someone please enlighten me.

In system map they are called geological sites but in the navigation map they are called something else because they are now different types of sites.

Target it from space, land within 2 - 1 km away. Target the site again from your SRV and head there. You'll find a red boxed zone guarded by skimmers and stingers; there are some loot there, and some are very lucrative like over 100k per unit. Sometimes they are stolen items.

Outside the red zone, sometimes they are rocks indicated by a white target box which you can shoot to unlock up to 5 crafting mats.

I saw one of these red places. I take it that they don't like visitors. And I saw a diamond back on the top of a mountain but I couldn't get my buggy up there to investigate Looked crashed but the guy was still in there. Is there something I can do with that. Like hatch breaker limpits?

Human location is usually a fleet carrier in orbit.

guys as a tip equip your ships with point defence and if your ships are close enough they will take out the skimmers.

for this reason the python is a great choice. point defence is great locations on ship.
do not place them underneath

Shooting skimmers yourself with the SRV is usually more fun than letting the ship auto-kill them though :)

Some of those "red box" trespass areas will give you a bounty if you are in there too long, some will not. I think usually if there's no buildings in the area you can just take out the skimmers and then loot to your heart's content with no consequences, but if it's an actual permanent installation you'll likely end up being wanted in the local system when you're done. There could be a bit more to it than that though. Skimmers will tell you if they are wanted(probably just based on their faction) just like ships if you target and scan them.

Usually if you find a ship with a pilot in it it's just landed to take a rest(like me 90% of the time when I log out) — it will immediately take off as soon as you start shooting at it. It will fight back if it has time to get going. You can pop them open for some bounties, materials or cargo just like a ship in space, but there's nothing else special about it. If it's actually a crashed ship there won't be a pilot... you might find some debris scattered around you can collect.

No they don't like trespassers. There's a trespass warning on entering the red zone so i usually scout around for the best entry and exit points (flat area) before entering; sometimes there's a rock behind the canister preventing you from going forward or cause you to get stuck so you have to use jump jets to move forwards or backwards. The canisters have to be targeted at close range (inside the red box) before you can pick it up.

Linger inside too long will probably trigger a fine and may cause the skimmers to attack. I usually managed to scoop 1 or 2 per sweep and then go for another round and another as necessary.

I have never found a crashed ship but at some wreckage sites there will be occupied escape pods which you can scoop for about 30 k a piece.
