Federal Corvette, it IS worth it.
You can stare at the numbers on paper all you want and argue the pros and cons. Once you get that baby all alone in an outfitting room... sparks fly and everything else in the galaxy just melts away.

Yes, the grind is God awful and the money is outrageous. But COME ON! It looks like a Decepticon mated with a galactic great white shark, and now it has a taste for Imperials and pirates.

The weapons look beautiful and line up like a pool cue. I drove it around the block, (not fully covered with insurance with the bells I put on it.) Handles great, sounds mean too.

Bottom line, the damn thing is like Christmas morning for any commander wanting to fly a finely tuned death machine. Haters gonna hate, baiters gonna bait, but the ship is well done.

Tested it during beta and am now working to get to rear admiral now that I actually have the money, and I can also vouche that it is definately worth it if you enjoy combat or many other activities.
Besides the cost, jump range, and having 1 less total internal slot, it does basically everything that you could do with the anaconda better.
At the moment, the dual huge hardpoints may be a letdown for some as you can have either a cannon or plasma accelerator before it's practically just a large hardpoint, but as we are getting huge lasers and multicannons in 2.1 it will become a lot more useable for those that don't like the current options.

If they increased the jump range, even if only to about 15ly, it would be a lot more tempting.

Not saying i wouldn't have one, mind.

I have an A rated one stored at a station waiting for 2.1, as it is im not keen on the huge weapons. Inscydeus is right also, the jumprange does let it down. Other than that it's an awesome ship and im quite sure when 2.1 is out it will be my favorite ship.

What's it like fighting in one? I have an Anaconda that I purchased on the cheap and outfitted just for exploration, but other then that, I've never flown combat ops in anything bigger than an FDL.

Well, Corvette is good combat ship on it's own.

BUT. You're missing one detail. It doesn't have much advantage over cheaper and rank-free Conda. Let's be honest. Rank grind doesn't have any useful pros other than ships. And what do i get for that? Corvette.

Sure, it's a good combat ship and can pack hell of a punch. Honestly, Conda has same (if not more) pure laser firepower. I doubt new class 4 guns will seriously outpower class 3. For example, let's take plasma. Class 3 deals 90 dmg, class 4 - 124. 34 dmg difference. 35% damage increase. Not 50% as someone would expect. If you compare all guns of Corvette vs Conda, and then "remove" all similar ones, you're left with 1 Huge (of Corvette) and 2 Large (Conda). So, Conda has better dmg.

Second thing. Let's take Cutter. It is no way better combat ship than Corvette, BUT it goes well in PvP, because of tankiest shields ever. And if it fights Corvette, it's only tactic is pew-pew-pew, boost away, fly back. No chance of outmaneuvering it in Corvette, cause it will just fly away. And it also beats Anaconda in trading (732 ton vs 432). What's Corvette advantage over Conda? It maneuvers better? Yes, but not enough to outmaneuver Conda or chase Cutter. Conda can easily keep aim on smaller targets (watch CMDR Olivka's videos on youtube) with fixed weapons.

Corvette is a good combat ship, but it's not worth a grind, because there is a cheaper and no-rank Conda, which does everything with same efficiency. Jumps further, costs less, has more armour, trades further, has same firepower, will be able to launch 2 fighters as well...

In all videos posted on reddit, Corvette either jumps away or dies.

Remember FDL? We waited almost a year before FD buffed it. Looks like we gotta wait 1 more.

EDIT: Just to clarify - i like this ship, flown it since 1.5 release, had few PvP encounters and finally left it in hangar, while taking deep space expedition in Conda. I know what i'm talking about.

Well, that sounds pretty darn good because I adore the way my Ferdie moves! I really miss that ship, haven't seen the old girl in months:(

One could argue it's more controlable than the FDL, as if you end up flipping the FDL you lose a ton of turn rate as the ship recovers from a low/high speed back into the blue zone (9 second 360 increases to 21 seconds). The Corvette however doesnt lose as much turn rate when out of the blue zone (12 second 360 increases to 18 seconds). So you can fly it with slightly less concern for the speed you're traveling when trying to turn.
It is of course no where near as fast as the FDL... The Corvette is very slow.

"worth it" regarding anything is subjective
I'm glad you like your ship

FD said no gimballed or turrets for huge weapons in 2.1 only fixed. That sucks.

Well, I think Huge gimballed weapons could be a bit OP.
If I remember correctly FD said the reason 2.1 will only have huge fixed is because gimballed and turreted werent shooting properly.
