Imperial Courier or Federal Dropship?
Flying the Python atm, was looking to buy a second ship as i'm getting bored of the Python, and these two seem like my top two choices. Anyone have any insights? How they handle on combat/genrerally?

Imp Courier is Agile and fast, but has no real cargo options, even the range is limited with the small Fuel Tank and no scoop. More or less, the additional problem with this ship is the in Comparsion with the DBE really low Level of the internal parts.
The Dropship on the other hand does not have most of these problems but on the other hand it acts more inagile and slow in dogfighting situations.

I don't know about the Fed Dropship, because I never flew it, but the Imperial Courier is a nice combat ship.

Fast enough, maneuverable enough (not great though) with a nice punch and really good shields (mine has 550 MJ with standard shields)

And it is really sexy looking.

On the "cons" side: bad jump range, bad armour, small internals.

It is also really cheap. Mine cost 11 million with everything A rated and military armour.

Going to have to disagree with your assessment a bit.

While the iCourier doesn't have much total room, it does have 6 slots, which is a pretty good for such a small ship.

For combat, the iCourier is a damn fine ship. No large hardpoints, to bigger ships take a while to get down, and fairly agile and fast meaning you can run circles round bigger ships and run from anything you can't handle. Not to mention, you can shield them up to have the shield strength of a much bigger ship.

The Dropship though.... not so good for combat. Its a bit of a tank with poor shields for its size. Good forward firepower and convergence, you can do some nice alpha strikes, but something more nimble than you will give you trouble unless you equip turrets.

From my time as a bounty hunter (on hold until i get the balls to fight the new AI) i did find Dropships were a pain in the arse if they packed turrets, otherwise they were fairly easy to outmanouver.

I was always suprised by the amount of shielding that the couriers packed too. I'm kind of drawn to the lower stakes, whats the rebuy cost on that fully ranked courier?

question is , what would be the use of your new ship ?

coz if you're looking for trade for instance , none of the 2 are good at it

Not really a trader, maybe smuggling and board missions? That seems to be what i'm doing the most of now, with some light combat thrown in because pirates. The reason i put the Courier in the mix is because for ages i've been flying slow, big ships, tried to go back to the eagle, but its too combat based.

If you're thinking about getting a Federal Dropship, you might want to consider ranking up with Federation to get into a Federal Assault Ship then. That thing is like a Vulture on steroids. Much like the iCourier and Dropship however, it suffers from a lack of jump range. I've flown in an FAS for months now and is hands down my most favorite, capable ship.

Okay, im currently at cadet, 100%, just waiting for the rank-up mission now (can't seem to find one, but that's another matter entirely.).
Lack of jump range isn't a problem, tbh. I've been flying the Python, FDL, and other such ships where i'm pretty sure an olypic athlete could jump further than they could.

FAS, not FDS. Assault ship is way better.

For any board mission that don't involve fighting, a humble Cobra Mk3 or the ASP explorer is much better.

I'm doing most of the board missions with a Cobra MK3, just because I'm tired of flying the ASP. That ship is so versatile, you can do anything on it! (except fighting)

I'll check the Cobra MKIII out, heard nothing but praise for it, plus i like the sound of its ridiculous speed.

The only problem with getting the FAS (god, even its name sounds badass!) is the rank requirement, which is why i was considering the drop ship, if rank wasn't a problem i'd be asking 'Vette or Cutter.

do you have Empire Ranking because you will need it for the iCourier its not a free for all ship like the iEagle. as someone who has flown an iCourier i will say its a blast to fly nimble and fast and with 3 medium hardpoints for its size you can take take out just about anything. just use 1 medium beam laser and 2 cannons of what ever kind you like its power plant can't take 3 lasers.

this is what i ran for a long time as my main BH ship til i bought my ASPX and left BH all together

Getting the Imperial ranks isn't a problem, i can get to the Courier's rank pretty quickly, it's just im getting real bored of my python, otherwise i'd go for the clipper instead of the courier.
The courier is nimble and a great small combat ship, just don't expect to be taking on larger ships with it. The dropship doesn't have much going for it since its not very manueverable and more of a multipurpose ship. I'd recommend you get rank with the fed so you could get an FAS over the dropship, it has less internal space but its like flying a Ferrari.
