Does anyone fly Type-6 transporters?
I like to haul cargo around, so I got my eyes on the Type-6 (playing on my 4th day, got a Cobra MkIII at 43k insurance cost and 1.3mil CR).

Here's the thing; looking at the stats of the Type-6, I see a really low survival rate against interdicting pirates, and the thought of losing a huge chunk of CR to lost cargo on top the insurance doesn't sit well with me (the only video I've found of someone being interdicted in a Type-6 went exactly as I thought it would).

I'd like to hear from anyone with some experience on the matter that can put this into better perspective.

Thanks!

It's made of paper. Learn to boost and dodge and you shouldn't be dying though.

What problem do you have with pirates? Just submit, power to engines and systems, boost (maybe throw a chaff) and jump again, you'll usually jump before they even get a shot or two in. I'm pretty sure I could do it without shields, though granted, it'd be harder without submitting first. I recommend going unarmed, since that's what I always do unless I'm purposefully looking for combat.

I'll be doing my next exploration trip on a T6, I think the lil' thing is pretty capable on itself.

Start saving credits for the asp explorer. In my opinion the best all rounder before it get's ridicouls expensive. Perfect modabel as a "combat" trader.

I usually submit to interdictions, since I've been able to take anything so far, thanks to decent maneuverability and good weapon choices on the Cobra. I haven't tried to see how long the FDS cooldown lasts after submitting (bounty is good), but perhaps I should.

Huh, hadn't paid attention to the Asp Explorer, thanks! Excellent stats, and jump capacity, I do agree. It's definitely on my wishlist. Now I just need to figure out how I'm going to get another 6+mil. Not looking forward to being stuck in the Cobra for that long.

Type-6 is a good trading ship, also a bonus for getting it if you are intrested in exploring. Comes just shy of the Asp Explorer jump-range. It also has a good laden jump range when trading, that is if you outfit everything right. The Asp Explorer is a good ship if you need firepower, or a fast getaway. But I would still recommend the Type-6 if your serious about trading. The Asp Explorer is in my eyes, good for small trade runs fast.

The cobra is a really good all-rounder for where you're at. 60 tons of cargo w/ no shields or like ~40 with. Not bad. What's the type-6, 100-something?

Not to mention the Cobra is fast. You can boost away from literally anything. I would stick with it as long as you can, either til an asp or better. Skip the type-6.

Type-6 is your best bet for a quick trade route between to systems if your farming credits that way. Exploring doesn't have a quick return on credits, but the Vulture is far better in combat than asp or cobra if you get bored and want to do resource extraction bounty hunting. You can basically do those two ships up to python, or skip to something bigger. It does take time though.

If you're flying Type-6, you can die pretty easily. Pay attention to your radar, and if you think someone is following you, getting ready to interdict, drop out of space before they even start it so they can't track you. Like someone else said, if they do interdict, just submit and hope your shields hold while you wait for your FSD to recharge.

The type 6 is the last one of the "Type-X"s i can recommend. It's relatively fast and maneuverable.

But yeah, once you can afford an Asp Explorer it becomes pretty useless. Asp is faster, better in combat, more jump range and can carry a bit more cargo.

It's pretty much the same with the Type 7 vs. the Clipper (if you're for the Empire). In a Clipper nothing can catch you and it's far superior to the Type 7 in every aspect by being only a little bit more expensive... but obviously you need Empire rank to buy one.

If you do a rare route (google image search: elite rare route) the rare cargo has a low investment/high proffit and as such is perfect for a Cobra and Type-6 with upgraded frameshift drives.

The T-6 is fine for hauling cargo. As was mentioned, you can currently outrun any interdicting AI, and I've found it rather good at winning interdictions too. You can put guns on it and kill the stray pre-2.1/1.6 wannabe pirate too, it just takes a long time.

That is up for re-evaluation with the coming patch though.
Fork_Q2 May 21, 2016 @ 2:29am
Escaping interdiction over and over again can be annoying. I don't fly trade ships that can't shoot dead pirates. I'd recommend what others have been saying: maybe save up for a AspX instead.
Anihillator May 21, 2016 @ 3:10am
Well, I did Robigo runs on T6 without even refueling/scooping. But yeah, asp explorer is way better, even though it have less cargo space.
If you need to haul a lot of things and dont have much money- then yeah, T6 is okay, but it's pretty weak.

a better question might be "what do I get after a Cobra Mk3, and how much is that i.e. ship + upgrades + cash to buy cargo + insurance"?
