Where to buy a new ship?

Hey,

Taking the advice from a previous post here on the forums, I am about to buy a Cobra MK3 as my first ship (Free Sidewinder doesn't count). However, I have no idea where to obtain it. I somehow reached a station with a shipyard by chance in the past but it only sold some luxury transportation ships (for many millions).

I currently have 600k credits. Would appreciate the help on where to buy my Cobra (or any other ship suggestions - looking for a flexible ship that can do well in almost all fields - not just good as a fighter only, for example).

go to stations and set the "stations sells ships" to the cobra

then go to the "reference system" and type in where you are

if needed sort the results (though normally they are closest first.


If you want your ship cheaper try seeing if there is a Li-Yung system nearby (add this in powers)

Thanks! Closest to me (Asellus Primus) is a "Whitson Hub", will probably have to double jump there. Hopefully I can find it on the map in-game lol.

Also, you can filter for high tech systems and most will have what you need.

Annoying visited 3 station that https://eddb.io/station say have a Cobra MK IV but they did not, they had Cobra MK III

If you use Inara.cz you can set your own location, then you go to http://inara.cz/galaxy-shipyard and pick the ship you like, after that the website will show you the nearest starport which sells that ship. You can also do the same with the outfitting page on that site to find a specific module.

Eddb.io is also pretty good but sometimes Inara is just more convenient.

Cobra Mk. IV isn't available to everyone, you sure you have it unlocked on your account?

I'd say getting a Diamondback is the best bang for your buck... very flexible and a big multipurpose. Can freight, explore, and even dogfight. It has good thrusters and nice hardpoint placement.

This. Not everyone can buy a Cobra IV... I think you have to own both, ED and horizons as seperate games or so.

The Cobra MK IV is marginal. Same powerplant for little extra and a much higher pricetag...

And more and better hardpoint placement, but sacrifices what makes the Cobra III great... speed and maneuverability.

Grab a Keelback (good defense for a cargo ship and ok hardpoint placement for mining and defense). What is your budget thought?

Simple wanted to try it and for start i guess around 1m, Cobra MK IV was so cheap :)
