Bacteria scanning
I've watched some videos on this, but I still can't seem to find the stuff.

I raised the camera above the SRV (using the Scorpion) and then drove around, but never saw a circlely-squigglely grouping. In the surface scanner, the whole area is lit up in green for the bacteria so I know it's there, somewhere.

How long should it normally take for one bacterium patch to turn up?

They really need to introduce a new scanner for bacteria. I'd rather enable a bacteria scanner on the SRV that would fire a drone into the sky and then change the view to be up above the SRV and then add in an overlay to help find the stuff.

Also, for the bacteria scanner, the drone camera should not tie into the ground terrain for driving around, causing a lot of annoying camera vibration. It would make the bacteria hunts a lot more satisfying if it was turned into a mini-game through a scanner utility.

I don't know why there aren't more drone features in the game at this point. Drones are everywhere now. ED needs to get with the times and add some.

i fly in my dolphin, like a halicopter with canopy down and thrust with lower thrusters and fly low (100-200 m( and slow (50 kmh)over the surface.

from high above you can see it well

watch for spots wit a slightly different colour as the surroundung surface.
Bacterias love flat terrain

Bacteria is usually grey, so a planet with a non-grey surface will make it easy to spot - e.g. dark brown.

Fly along below 200m in height, watch for the patches.

It took forever, but I did finally find one, and then all three on a planet. It's not as bad as some of the tutorial videos make it out to be.

I used the SRV and it worked out ok. I'll have to try the ship method later.

I always use the ship for bacteria. It's much harder to see bacteria spots from ground level; nothing sticks up which you can see from a distance on the ground.

Fly under 50m/s and under 50meters off the ground. Look for flat area or soft rolling hills. Bacteria tends to like soft surfaces like sand and dirt, and usually don't like hard rock, but this isn't a totally consistent rule.

Sometimes the colony's and surrounding colors almost indentical or its not peresent at the given location. Usually is a good idea to look around at the planet and land at different loactions, because of this, not to mention some plants grow at different areas mountatin range or plains light and temperature. i guess there's a guide to this.

Also generally its a good idea to use jetpack the scarab jump booster or cam suite to have a better vantage point.

For me, it's not as fun and breaks the immersion. Nobody would use a space ship to fly around looking for bacteria. Although if I get frustrated, I'd probably try it. So far I think looking around in camera suite from the SRV seems to work too. I just wish the SRV or On Foot had a "drone cam" you could use to fly around to find and mark it.

I looked around but didn't find a useful guide for it, just a few videos. It looks like the game designers made it an extra challenge, which is ok, once you understand how it works. I don't mind driving around and checking out the planet I'm on.

Ironically, I got blown away before I turned in my bio data... I rechecked the planet and found that my discovery was still there, but unsure if I could rescan the same planet. I'm assuming not.

It takes a while to figure it out what's where but it can be done,
funghi is usually found at the mountain sides for example.
cacti? mars likes. and so on. I guess this far no 1 brothered with.
Cannon got less active at the recent years or what?

About got blown away? I don't ask because i dont have to and thats the sad part.
The other sad part it chases away a lot of peoples.

Hello my micro-being seeker friend.

I always do it like this:

I use my SRV. Full energy on the drive and then hop at full speed, while I look around.
VR glasses or head tracker required. Of course, you can also use the POV switches. It's just not as comfortable and also slower.

As others have pointed out, dark spots on the floor could be bacterial colonies.
Since you need three samples, it can take a while to collect them.

Never search in the dark or twilight.
You can hardly see them there.

Pay attention to the scanner in the SRV when you drive over a level.
It indicates that there is something.
And keep an eye on your fuel gauge.

What others have said: you have to fly very low to the ground.

lol...it was a uh, erm, settlement massacre that I wasn't able to pull off. But I've gotten better at these psychopathic missions. ED: Space (but On Foot) Hitman.

That's the first positive thing I've heard about VR with this game using On Foot. I'd heard it was just a flat screen, probably what you need for bacterium hunting though.
