How to get Nickel?
I have one, don't know when or how did I get it but I have never done a mining .

Shooting rocks produces three at a time, so you most likely got it as part of a mission reward.

1. As Mission rewards
2. Surface prospecting
3. Mining (both metal and ice rings)

Go to the engineer's base. Check the news articles around the 15th June. One of them will tell you where you can find all the element nearby.
There are lots of it on planet surfaces, just drive around and shoot rocks that your scanner tells you to. You will see it among iron, sulphur, carbon...

Seems to be Drive, drive, drive, drive, find rock, shoot rock, not nickel, drive, drive, drive, drive, find rock, shoot rock, not nickel (metals, yes, lots of metals, just no nickel).

You need to choose a planet with high nickel content in the system map.

Find a planet with geological features and that has nickel, you're sure to find some there and it lessens the driving around

Cash in your dimes.

best thing to do - get an srv, do some surface prospecting, take some stupid screenshots and have fun. and if you really need nickel, trade off something else you have

there are ways of grindy maxing out raw engineering materials pretty easy, but grind is the last thing i'd recommend to new player. really, it's not neccessary. you can get it by just playing and having fun, and get that upgrade tomorrow or something. or if you really need to grind - google chrystaline shards and go crazy

what i don't get is why some ask for a hand feeding when you can use the net for this information.

Why use a PC - labtop and its got a net connection and it's a difficult thing to just click on a explorer and type it in there

Or just do a scan of the system.. oh wait that's to hard cause it requires you to
learn how to do something yourself and deletes the purpose of being lazy and unable to
think for one's self correct?

Check the net for what you need. that is what the internet is for.

Beelzebob provided the piece of information I was missing, doesn't do you any good to do everything right, if there's no nickel on the planet.

Interesting post from Viper, I see there is a red ('banned)' that shows up next to his name. Feel sorry for someone that has to make such sarcastic comments to me when I was only looking for advice. If he's been banned from posting on the forums, that doesn't hurt my feelings at all.
