Quark star
I'm not sure but I may have possibly found one. In the system PSR JO108-1431 I found a neutron star that had an even horizon or was distorting light, now I'm not gonna say it is because I don't know a lot. I love space to death and study a lot but I still don't know if I'm right, but a quark star is the intermediate stage between a black hole and a neutron star, it's the last gasp of a star before it's event horizon forms. And this neutron star has an event horizon, but like I said don't criticize because I don't know a whole lot about space but I'm just curious to what this thing is. I didn't think neutron stars formed even horizons.

The system you mentioned doesn't show up when I search it. You may have spelt it wrong.

And it's possible you just saw light distortion due to gravity- which can be present on neutron stars if they have a high enough mass. You likely just found a heavier than average neutron star.

Neutron stars bend light in the game, but you need to be close and have e.g. milky way or dust cloud behind to see it better. Because they are so small you might not even see it until close by so maybe that's why you thought there is event horizon

Quark stars are theoretical and not yet found and verified (afaik) even there have been some suggested candidates

It's normal for all neutron stars to bend light due to their immense gravitational pull from such a tiny object, it can be a bit hard to spot without having many things in the background that could make the effect visible though. Even white dwarf stars distort light if you look closely.

Spot on. First noticed it myself in a Neutron star field on my way out to Sagittarius A.

Actually every object of high mass does this, though I'm not sure if this is present in elite. For example our sun does bend light around her edges, too. Of course much less than very dense objects like neutron stars or even black holes.

Necro I know, but this thread comes up when Googling quark stars in ED.

As others have mentioned, quark stars are hypothesized but unverified. It is also hypothesized that outwardly they may be indistinguishable from neutron stars. My understanding is that at a certain mass the interior of a neutron star may have sufficient gravitational pressure to compress neutons to the point that they separate into quarks, thus creating a "quark star" and possibly even a "strange star" at even greater mass. However it is likely that on the surface there is insufficient gravitational force to "break" neutrons down and, consequently, there would be a shell of neutrons that would mean that quark stars appear to be "just" a particularly massive neutron star.

Basically, you may have already flown past a quark star in Elite Dangerous but it just appears to be a regular neutron star.
