Elite Dangerous
[Answered] Does the VR in this game work with Trinus VR?
I just ordered Samsung gear VR for my edge S6 phone to get an intro in how VR is like. While waiting for the order to get home i started doing some research of what i can do with them, and found out that i can get an app/software called Trinus that should be able to enable vr in PC games streaming VR images to my phone from my PC while also sending the gyroscope input back to the computer. I thought of this game as one of the games i want to try this with. I allready got logitech 3D joystick so at the controller part im ready.

So im wondering if anyone has tried this? The youtuber that made one of the toturials im watching made it work nicely in alien isolation (another game i will try of course).

Please dont ask me to just get htc vive or oculus cuz i cant afford that far yet and i have bought these to slowly go into the world of VR the cheapest good way as possible.

no.

cell phone display isn't the same thing. Doesn't have the framerate and the connection doesn't have the bandwith to push that much data.

There is a freeware tool somewhere that let's you push VR to google cardboard but it's laggy, very low framerate, and doesn't really push actual rendered VR - just pseudo-3d but still flat-screen output. A cool idea, but completely unusable to play the game.

If you really want a VR-like experience head tracking is the way to go. TrackIR is $150 and you can hack one together yourself for about $30. Not even close to a real VR experience but give you some of the advantages VR offers - head tracking.

I dont think you got my point. I know most of these. Im used to low framerates and i told im doing this to get an easy start into VR. If you want to know more of what im talking about watch this video.

Also there is stil nice things to do with the Gear VR themselves. if you havent seen the reveiws of the Gear VR experience you would know they are really reccomenders as starters to the VR world. no i dont want trackIR and i know about it. Then i would rather spare of for a real oculus.

Yes, it will work - tried it myself using Elite Dangerous - Trinus VR and my Samsung S3 in google cardboard. Quality wasn't great obviously due to the low pixel density of the Samsung and the poor lenses of the cardboard but everything was in 3d and I could look around by moving my head. Just gave it a brief try a few months ago - think it would be nausea-inducing for any length of time. If I remember correctly the menus looked too small to read as well (maybe some way of changing this in the setup?)

Hope you enjoy it - good luck!
Hello there

The game works fine with trinus Gyre.

Im personally not able to get my FPS quite to where I want it, but if my headset wasnt so damn uncomfy, id bee using it for this and other games daily.

Its not perfect in ED, but is servicable.

Thanks for your answers! Well im going to use the Samsung Gear VR on my edge S6 which is produced along with oculus and tested them in the store so the comfort wont be the issue. Right now i think this is a cheaper solution than buying Track IR which i dont like the functions of as i need to tilt the head away from the screen when i can use this and have the screen infront of me.

I might get the tridef software later to get real 3D depth effect since iv'e heard the trinus only gives fake 3D. Well see.

Hello there

I actually use my Track IR with Trinus to control the Head tracking, I prefer it to my Phone's tracking (LG3)

I think you misunderstood - that's exactly what I said. It WILL work, but not well enough to play...maybe it's enough to "get an idea" of how VR would look, but I don't think it's a very good approximation. I tried it, it was cool, but I wouldn't play that way. Then I got the Vive and the experience wasn't even close. I don't think what you see through a cell phone VR setup is a very good approximation of what Elite Dangerous in VR is like.

Of course not but as a starter i think i will enjoy it a little. My demands are not hight so i can enjoy quite much. But i got the answers i wanted so this is kinda derailing because i allready know this is not the perfect VR solution but it's the cheapest for those that cant afford the real stuff. Also samsung gear VR packs quite good VR if you have tried them (and stil dont have high demand) they are actually made along the real oculus producers for the latest samsung phones. I tested it at the local store before i ordered them and it looks great. All the reveiws i have seen around are between 4-5 stars. So it cant be that bad.

Guys. Iv'e got a problem. I got the freetracking to work in the game but it refuses to react when i press the headlook reset button iv'e assigned. How can i fix this? Have tried lots of different buttons but it just refuses to work. I can look around but it is always fixed upwards in my ship. I need to look my head downwards to see forward in the game...

Dont use Trinus. Use Riftcat instead. It is far better and has far more usefull support. And an own Sideload VR app for Gear VR.

A video were I explain how it all works and how to use it.

Did you try Riftcat. Using the proper Gear VR app? It is not terrible on highest ressolution and gets image quality close to a Vive. Ive tried both vive and my Gear VR with my Samsung S6 and it has greater ressolution than a vive technically speaking (not on VR stream mode but close). Making the pixel density just as good. I even got dissapointed by the low similarity from the vive.
