Limpets

Curious about how these work. I noticed when I tried a collection limpet one time, i didn't get it back. Does that mean I have to use up a limpet collector for every single piece of something I pickup? That doesn't make sense to me. I don't get much in my refinery, feels like it would be hundreds of pieces of rock to get a unit refined, and i assume that's literally just one sellable piece of something refined. So how the heck am I supposed to get anything done if I can never carry nearly enough limpets? Also am I reading right that they actually take up cargo space? I feel like I'm (hopefully) really missing something because it seems like it would be extremely time-intensive to collect and refine enough material to build up enough stock worth selling.

if you target an item the limpet will only work on that one item and selfdestruct!

The way it works is: you do not target any specific item and the limpets keep flying aroudn and collecting everything...

Sometimes I only need something specific after combat and I target an item.. when mining I just let them do their thing...

Wow ok did not know that obviously. So basically I should get a prospector limpet and use those up looking for the asteroid I want and then launch a couple collectors and just sit there and shoot at the asteroid? And the collectors won't bllow up as long as I don't target any of the debris, nor if my refinery is full? I realize I need to pay attention to my refinery and keep flushing the extra bits I don't want.

yes mine and the limpets fly around and collect for 7 minutes or seomthing like that, than they die and you launch new ones... if you get a 3A limpet controller you can have 2 limpets simultaneously... or get two 3A and you can have 4 simultaneously... I got two 3A and its a blast! ;)

ok well i found a pristine metal asteroid belt and once i got the hang of the limpets i have to say i'm pretty happy! this is fun as heck. i really love that even after 50 hours of playing this game i've discovered a whole new aspect that's really enjoyable.

also, i didn't realize there are things other than the material content of the asteroid to collect! that really makes it feel like less of a grind because it has that "lottery" aspect to it :)

yeah tell me about it I am 1000 hours in and I find new things that are fun to do all the time ;) asteroids and ships etc are like kinder surprise eggs now :D you never kno wwhat you get :D and lots of usefull upgrades possible with that stuff!

oh crap i didn't even think of salvaging! i take it i don't need the prospector limpets but i'm guessing those collector limpets will go pick up stuff. scooping is a PITA! lol I've been avoiding USS' completely.

yes kill ships and use limpets to collect the loot... or go to USS and collect the stuff with limpets etc...
