TRADE DATA ???
Ok, I have been playing ED for a while now. Just like most things in this game, trade data is really pointless its seems. Here is my reasoning. Lets say that I want some explosives.. So I go to the galaxy map and purchase trade data for what ever system. The nice colored lines are said to show you export and import of said commondity per that system....A flowing colored line moving away from said system=export...colored line flowing to system=import. Simple enough.
Now here is the kicker in your FSD :) , after you paid credits to get this data, and then you start to survey each base/port for a commodity market that has sought after commodity, you may or may not found sough after commodity listed in the systems trade data details list. Only a few import and exports are listed here.... So the hunt begins. After traveling to every last port or base in that system...NO SOUGHT AFTER COMMODITY anywhere is that system...Seriously...

I have done this many time, thinking maybe is was just that system not working correctly. But NOOOOOO. Ever time I have done this....No specifically sought after commodity has been found this way......What a great waste of a pretty data system...

I've found the imports from/export to lists on the commodity screen to be fairly accurate. However, the trade lines i've found to be largely incorrect. But its been this way since launch unfortunately.

Hopefully FD one day fix it, because it would be a really nice system if it worked.

Rogueys trade helper has worked for me everytime, just choose the most recently updated places it says to go.

ps..make sure you keep a notepad and pen handy,as remembering those place names is a bee itch ;)

I think some of the trade data might be from or to habitats without a commodity market.

well that's kind of how supply and demand work. the more players start bringing in in-demand commodities the less they're worth. and as mote people buy them from the source port the price goes up. trade routes become less profitable as the demand is satisfied. this game has a live economy so its not a static price. the trade tools are great but they do cause trade route exhaustion if enough players start hitting the same route.

I used to see the trade lines as an exclusion factor when I was looking for something. A system that exports a commodity to many places or to big markets would have fairly low stock and high prices, so I'd just look elsewhere. For example, a medium-sized agricultural market that has a bunch of high-population industrial places nearby would show a lot of green going out, but good luck getting meat, fish or tea there.

surprised i am the only one who seems to have checked if this "live economy" is actually working.

it isnt

roflmao

if it was i could work with it,but it seems to just be a RNG system,as no npc`s are trading and theres to big a playground for players to affect it.

as said above,if theres a high deman or high production then prices should reflectt it,its not doing that.
if there were actual numerical data on screen it would be easier to see,but its those daft bars that dont reflect trading at all, just quantities.

for example..why would it state it will buy higher than its selling for ?

also seen many stations global average being lower than a 3 bar commodity on sale at the station ?

not specific to this game though, seen devs spend 10 years + trying to get a trade system working

I guess I haven't done enough trading in this game to see it. I'm in it for the pew-pew right now. Beats watching Seinfeld reruns before I fall asleep.

the first thing i checked.

ships was my bag,but watching others trying to get a trade system to work while ripping thier hair out and having hissy fits was fun.

i`ll bet theres a few bald devs in frontiers workshops with a twitchy eye and teeth like castle buttresses ;)

It is. Just this particular aspect isn't working properly. Learn more about how the BGS works.

Well, I'll probably try a bit of trading/smuggling once I get out of the Vulture and into the FAS, but I don't think I'm going to get very good returns on my time with a 4 ton cargo hold, which I swap out for an SRV or armor upgrade half the time anyway.

tonights plan is to see whats actually happening by pen and paper method.

if its working and no ships have been to the stations on the rim then prices should stay static.

and if no ships dock then the prices resets, its not what it seems.

ask a dev about the economy ,if his/her eye starts twitching and face goes red, you`ll know its a far greater chore than it seems ;)

ps..non functional doesnt kill trading, just means writing down where goods are cheap,as they usually follow a basic model just to keep stock flowing.

I'm really frustrated after spending credits on trade datat only to find these lines still don't work after yet another update!
jaysjerky Jul 15, 2016 @ 1:46pm
agreed, at this time, unfortunately I have stopped playing the game for now.....in hopes maybe in a year, this game will be much more enjoyable for all. The concept of this game is indeed grandeous with much potential, yet as with many games of late, execution leaves much to be desired.
