Elite Dangerous

Elite Dangerous

In VR; sitting behind pilot
So I finally got this game to run on my Oculus without crashing and the orientation has me sitting behind the pilot with no apparent option to reset the orientation.

Doesn't anybody know?

My profile says I've played this game for 22 hours; I haven't really played for even 3 minutes.

The Vive games aside; this game was supposed to be a "killer app" for VR...

Considering that its kind of embarrassing how unoptimized it is for VR so far...

I kind of blame that on Oculus; I feel like they totally dropped the ball. I kind of like my DK2 more than my CV1... but I guess thats a gripe for another forum.

i had that issue with the vive. I noticed that if i launch the game with my head leaned far back, it will start with the set point of view to be where my headset was when the game first launches. Not sure what the deal is with the occulus so i dont know if this will help you. they should make a way to reorientate the POV while playing.

Elite has a key you can bind to reset your position! by default F12 or just do it through oculus home... 2 easy ways to deal with this!

I tried F12 and I just get a snapshot.

I play the game on Steam. Do I still go through Oculus home?

I'm about to try this game on my Vive and see how it is...

just go into options and place a new keybind for resetting your position!

by the way oculus lets you reset the position as well in the options! but Elite is really super convenient when it comes to placing you in the pilot seat! I have the key bound to left ALT and I use it at the start of a gameing session and can play 10 hours straight without ever needed to readjust again!

thanks

Vive is ♥♥♥♥ in Elite compared to the rift you will see! due to loads of unoptimised code, stupid lenses, heavy front waight and no ATW and no option to raise pixel density... etc..

Actually I don't find this game to be convenient to the user by any means.

Still can't find where to bind the re-adjust in the options (in game)... is it UI focus? Will it work with my controller so I don't have to use a keyboard which doesn't reach the recliner anyways (where I prefer to use the rift)... I don't have this problem with any other game on my Rift and when I do its as simple as hitting the select/back button.

And speaking of inconvenience... the tutorial missions... not really sure where to start because they don't seem to offer any port of entry.

Really disappointed in this game from a VR perspective.

Last I checked, it was called "Reset HMD orientation" or something like that in the options...

I don't see that anywhere

Just in case someone starts to play ED in VR now (like me) this option is under Controls/Miscellaneous/Reset HMD Orientation in the game settings menu. Link it to a convenient button. Also under the same menu you can link set to open `Game Menu` also to another joystick button if u are playing a HOTAS setup, which makes it easier to exit the game or change binding settings on the fly in VR without removing your headset. With the oculus rift without this step it was a pain to leave the game, i had to terminate normally the executable.
