The absolute edge of the galaxy?
I'm just wondering has anyone been to the absolute edge of the galaxy yet and if not then why not? Once i get a few more ships and sort some things out i plan on going right to the edge and exploring everything i see on the way. Also when you go exploring do you look at every single planet and land on all of them?

Maybe it's pretty hard to tell where the edge is

There is no real absoloute edge. The stars get further and further apart as you approach the edge to the point where you can't make any more jumps. You can use FSD boosts to get further, but eventually you will hit a point where you can't get to the next star.

As to whether people have done so, yes, many people have been out to the various edges of the galaxy.

Earlier in the year 1000+ flew to the far side of the galaxy and the end of the far arm. Not quite to the edge, but the stars were getting very thin. Some went a bit further as well as far as they could get.

Ok thanks for the reply, it has helped me out.

I've been as far as you could get out pre engineers in 2 spots (out past crab and out past heart and soul), with engineers you could probably get 2/3 more jumps in some of these places. The stars are so thin you can get "black" screenshots, but there are still some you could go to if you could... heck there is one star like 1000ly from its closest other if I remember right lol

That is quite far, I want to figure a way to go even further, it is sort of a mission of mine to go further than anyone else and hopefully reach the very edge of the galaxy. Of course i haven't figured a way to do it but hopefully i'll figure something out.

anway you shouldn't worry. since i thing 5.0 versions - they eventually add next "other galaxies" aswell.
thats basically why best atronomers across globe workin with FD to make this happen, aside "doing some astronomy" in their worktime, flying Elite and home and fighting/fending-off space aliens invation in nearest suburbgs.

If you want to get further than anyone else, just fly to the edgemost star you can jump to, then align with the next star that'll likely be out of range. Then, turn supercruise on and leave it on permanently.

Just keep going in that direction, and you'll eventually get further than anyone else has ever been. Unfortunately, you won't know you're futher than anyone else anywhere else other than in your heart.

A real explorer never lets the uncertainty of a return trip stop him from venturing forth!

Add to that, you will never actually leave the system you started flying from, even if you travel a full light year.

Add to that, and someone probably has been further by using jumpoinium.
