signal sources
Hey guys,
Every time I take a mission that expects me to search signal sources for a specific piece of salvage, I search and search and the ♥♥♥♥ never is there! Am I doing somethign wrong?

It's more or less the same for the planetary missions. I fly around the planet indicated, looking into blue circles and find nada.

Advice?

When taking a salvage mission they tell you in the description to scan the local nav beacon, them ission will update, and they will point you to a very specific lcoation where the mission items spawn. Searching is no longer a thing for missions, they point you to where you need to go.

if you have enough money - advanced distance scanner

Yeah for the landing ones, it does that. The mission I have now says "Search Signal Sources" and the beacon doesn't do anything. I'll try it again though.

Yeah nothing happened. No message.

Without the advanced discovery scanner (ADS)you need to drop out of Supercruise(SC) into the Nav Beacon POI, and then target the Nav Beacon itself in normal space, wait for the ships built-in scanner (the same you use for ship targeting). Then the mission will update with a target planet/moon. With ADS you just scan the whole system and it will find the planet/moon you need to go to.

Then after flying round the planet for a few minutes you should get a mission specific USS notification.....then go to the Nav Panel and 'Lock' the new blue USS, drop out of SC and pick up your salvage. If you don't get the required amount of salvage, then it's the back into SC and fly around the planet/moon for a bit and repeat.

My ship is fitted with an Advanced Discovery Scanner.
I have also targeted the beacon in normal space. Neither thing has given me any indication on the nav screen, or message.

yep same for me i logged off and back on but after scan of nav it does not update mission so your l;eft hanging without a clue were to go.

It's working for me as just completed a black box salvage mission an hour or so ago. Did you charge up the ADS by assigning it to to a fire button and pressing for 5-10 seconds?

Also when targeting the Nav Beacon in normal space were you in sensor range whichever you happen to have fitted? You need to wait some seconds as well once within range.

Yes to both, I use the ADS just like normal to discover all objects in the system.
Nothing doing.

In regular space, I targeted the beacon and flew up close. It scanned but gave no message.

I dumped the mission, I"ll probably try again with a fresh one. Probably just a bug from loggin inand out or something.

THanks all

I had that problem once, not getting a message from the beacon, then I went and docked at a base and repaired some minor damage to my ship and that fixed the problem. Sensors were damaged a bit.

FAILURE UPDATE:

Okay so I grabbed two new salvage missions that are in the same system. I dropped in and approached the beacon, nothing. Then I did and ADS scan and I got two messages, indicating two planets in the system as possible salvage locations.

I approached the first planet and my ship made the surface scanner sound, then said I had performed a detailed scan. Nothing happened.. So I flew around it an no signal sources are coming up. It's also not a landable planet. WTF?

OH GOD I FOUND IT.
I was flying away, and I decided to turn around and target the planet again. Score.

I'M SO HAPPY!

Thanks guys, I'm really glad to finally be able to branch out into other mission types.
I'm just sad that I'm obviously so obtuse. I'm like the guys dad who can't open his inventory.
Is this because I just turned 40? Am I losing my gaming acumen???

I guess my last question is:

What is it that makes the final signal source pop?
I'm at the next planet, that's been ID'd by message. I'm flying around it, I'm stopping, I'm flying away and coming back, switching targets..Yet no message now.

What is the thing I'm supposed to do when I get to the final planet? I'd like to be able to knock these out without a bunch of trial and error.
