Plot route fail?
Just started a new game and haven't encountered this problem in my last 'playthrough' and not sure how do I avoid this since I'm trying to head to certain galaxies for these missions.

How far ahead are you trying to plot? I think there is a 1000 LY limit.

oh its says 18.32LY away, I guess that's the problem? So would I need to work my way down the galaxy to be able to plot the route?

EDIT - It seems working your way down to the nearest galaxy doesn't work either. It still can't plot route no matter how close I get to my destination galaxy :/
By galaxy you mean system, yes? And the system you're trying to get to is 18.32 LY away? Okay, what's the jump range on your ship and if it isn't at least 18.32, are there systems in between where you are and where you want to go that are within your jump range that you can travel through to get there? If there aren't, the route plotter will fail.

I just had a two jump plot fail as well. I manually navigated there just fine, it wasn't jump length related.

Hey Syncro, it could possibly be because there is no way to get there without making a jump that is too long for your ship's jump drive?

Yeah I understand.

I'm manually navigating right now actually. For some reason I couldn't get a "planned" route so I had to hyper cruise or whatever you call it there on my own.

Thanks for the help guys.

First of all, it's called systems, not galaxies. There is just one galaxy in the game that you can be in, and that is the one you're flying around in (zoom out to see the whole galaxy) ;)

Plot route failed pretty much means that the route plotter isn't able to find a path from where you are to where you want to go with your current jump range. To overcome this problem, you pretty much have to buy a better Frame Shift Drive, and/or strip some weight off your ship, perhaps even drain your fuel tank a bit to increase the jump range slightly.

If you mean you're flying in supercruise (the one you use when going towards stations), then that won't work. The jump animation is a loading screen for the next system, so if you try to fly to another system in supercruise, you won't arrive to anything else than a target reticule in empty space. (I've done it myself to test). In addition, going closer so the system is within your jump range doesn't work either, jump distance is chosen by how long the distance is from star A to star B on the galaxy map, not how close you are to star B's target reticule.

So basically don't even do those type of missions until I get a better FSD?

Well, like I said, it just happened to me, and the "plot route" wasn't working, but I was able to make the individual jumps. I think it was a bug maybe?

If you actually can't make the jump, maybe it's because, when you have a load of cargo, your jump distance is reduced. Two ideas: one is empty your hold and see if you can make longer jumps, the other is to try and craft an FSD boost in your inventory, to extend your jump range for that one jump.

Not necessarily, but getting a better FSD is always a good idea. When you find a mission like that which you want to do, just check on the galaxy map if you can plot a route to the system that the mission wants you to go to first. If yes, accept the mission, if no, don't take it and find another to do instead.

Edit:

That could be a cause too, usually it's caused by a jump being a bit larger than your jump range when your fuel tank is full or you have cargo weighing you down.

oh yeah my cargo was full, I'm planning on going the trading route so I was just doing pure trading missions really, but thanks.

yeah, I'll do other missions until I get a better FSD, thanks.

make sure you dont have a boost level selected for your fsd or it will plot routes which are too far to jump without the fsd boost materials synthesized beforehand... :)
