I'm not too sure it was my fault, as I could hear everything that was happening. No sound of danger before I heard main menu music.
Oh it is your fault, not supposed to neglect a running ship. Stay in the game you are playing, alt-tabbing can get you killed...Oh wait it did!!
op do what ottomic just said
I was thinking something similar, but unless you've turned off all the ship's verbal notifications you'd know about in plenty of time to recover before crashing... Unless you'd got to like 2000C or something I guess?
Sounds more like a bug to me unless OP has indeed turned off the notifications, in which case entirely his own fault.
There's a clipping bug that rears it's head occasionally. You'll notice your ship sort of bounce sideways a bit when leaving a dock. It's never killed me, but it has depleted powerful shields and caused minor damage to some of my ships before now. I can easily imagine it destroying a weaker ship. Might be what hit you.
Turns out a key that I hit was my binding for silent running and further distraction meant my ship was literally cooked to death. May or may not be the reason for your death, as unless your sound is up and all notitfication on, the game is surprisingly quiet on most other aspects.
Just as well I really don't suspect you crashed into a star as surely you would hear the drop out sound over the video whereas I won't be surprised you didn't hear the temperature warning.
