It *would* be nice if there were more incidentals or varieties of stuff to achieve/gain/buy to tide us over between the larger milestones.
There is *stuff* to do but not a vast (seemingly to the player) reward which makes the game *feel* grindy IMHO

This^^
Take i easy, don't focus on min/maxing your ship to the max as soon as possible. Do what you enjoy, keep an eye on what you need to be getting for the Engineers, and let things come as they will.
Went mining for the first time since a couple of weeks after base game launch (wow limpets make it much better). Also prior to the update I'd only used the SRV for doing donuts on random planets.
The engineers are though seemingly designed to ensure you have to do more than one thing. You can't just sit in a res, or rove a planets surface etc.
So if you don't fancy doing whatever it is you gotta do to get the rest of your update.... just find someone to trade stuff with. AFAIK it works for everything but Data, and data you can get from missions of all types from what I've seen.
i'm asking if the 2.1 update (and only whats in the update) included anything I can get without having to "grind" around for? To clarify, i'm asking about 2.1's contents only, I know of all the other things the game has on offer.
I asked because I don't have too much time to play, and wanted to see if theres anything I can sample without needing to dump loads of time into the game. For example, just meeting one engineer can make you take a 400ly round trip. I suppose its not a "grind" level question, but one of how much I can have access to without spending a lot of time playing, grinding or not. I would dearly like to try the new things i've seen everyone going on about, and i've access to many of the other things in the game alreadly, through previous play.
From your responses I suppose not much however.
You like combat? Lot of loot from combat.
Like trading? every stop check for delivery missions that give you materials as rewards.
Like exploring.... well you can pick up materials in the srv I guess lol
After that trade for what you need. People will swap stuff with you. Low level stuff if obviously fairly easy to get the stuff for... high level stuff requires more stuff
is a guy that you basically just need to do bounties for and then give them to him, i think it has aa combat rank requirement tho. that might be the easiest to get with limited amounts of time.
but you also need materials for crafting so while shooting have a cargo scoop, and collector limpets if you can fit it to grab those. (they arent marked as illegal salvage) and they dont take cargo space.
The short answer. If you think it's a grind, it is. If you don't, it's not. The Classical MMORPG elements which delay, redirect and deflect the sensation of grind, do not exist here.
Do you want everything to be handed to you on a silver plate like??
Enjoy the game, there are loads of things you can do instead of just grinding for upgrades/credits etc... Go exploring or play with mates or join a faction!!
Come on if you can't think of something to do and you think 1 and half hours is a long time, then you have no idea how long a time people spend playing this game, which is meant to be hard, it's meant to be the way it is or it would not be Elite!!
You have to work your way in this universe, not having it all sitting there for you!
To answer your question the way I interpret it: engineers are somewhat time consumptive, there are little to no mods that you can aquire without devoting a substantial amount of time to first unlocking the engineer in the first place, then running about gathering materials. I don't perceive the process as a grind, but it's a long way from instant gratification.
The reward is your own story you make in the game, especially in exploring! The game is pretty much as you make it! Understand????
Dude this can be said for any aspect of the game, we know we got gratification with Exploring so in time the engineers update will give some people this and some people it won't! The problem is that it's not for everyone, so they should something else to do.
I usually do exploring as you know :)
But when it comes to the grind as I know how time consuming it is! I usually do exploring inbetween and return to what I was doing, this illiminates the grind some what! If this makes sense dude
