Asteroid Belts vs Planet Rings?
Can anyone tell me the real difference between mining in a Belt as to mining in a planet ring? Is there an advantage or benefit to each, if not why would one mine in a belt, "lack of those big things called rocks"..?
As always, thank you for any info commanders. :)

The only real difference, assuming the composition and grade of each is the same, is that rings tend to be substantially denser. Because there are more rocks more closely together in a ring, mining is quicker but potentially more hazardous if you're out there in something like an unshielded T9 with E class thrusters.

Of course, if someone is out there mining in an unshielded T9 with E class thrusters they probably have larger problems to deal with, like unresolved childhood trauma.

or a drinking problem

EDIT: @OP: functionally: in my experience, you pick rings for quantity, belts for safety (no hostile npc's in belts AFAIK but I could be full of it).

Never seen the point of mining in a belt. Less rocks but bigger rocks.

It's good for newbie practice and equipment testing.

Or if you don't want anyone to hear you singing along to the radio while you mine. ;p
