Most people swear by surface laser mining platinum as the best way to make money mining these days.

The meta is mining platinum in a haz RES using a T6, Python, Anaconda or Cutter in sequence of earnings rate. Choose whichever one you can afford. Overall earnings rates, including selling time are approximately 40, 120, 150, 200 million per hr respectively.

It always changes.

In past it was Void Opals, then it was Painite, then Platinum (btw. that was in 2021 :serment_wink:) and so on.

Market always changes. Currently you can get for one Musgravite 911,757 credits. :gembag:

The price of the commodity on its own is irrelevant. You have to combine it with how quickly you can fill up your ship with it. It takes an hour to fill up a Python with core-mined stuff, but only 10 minutes to fill up with platinum. Platinum is reliably 275,000 per ton, so roughly 1/3 the price but you get it 6 times as fast, so you're earning at twice the speed overall, then you have to consider the ratio of mining time to selling time, which is less predictable because it depends on locations.

The main thing is that platinum is consistent and predictable. It's just like going to the bank to get your money. Core mining has a lot more variability. Also, a lot of fleet carriers park around the platinum hotspots and they'll buy the platinum at a good price, which cuts down travelling times a lot.

I analysed a lot of these times in my study of small mining ships. It would be great if someone did a similar objective study for core mining. I'd love to see how the Cobra core mining compares with a T6 platinum mining. Conclusions at 28:00 if you don' want to watch the whole thing

I'm nowhere near fast as you yet but with the information you've provided I can consistently grab 50 million per hour (Python) anytime I want it and that's good enough for me.
