Odyssey optimization?
hello, i tried to play odessey today after long break on my potato (friend said what game got optimization and now it runs smooth and nice), and i got only 30-40 fps in stations, on planets (i mean planet stations) and inside fights 15-25, fps same as on ultra and low. same like on Alpha long time ago, lol. can it be fixed somehow? fresh drivers and couple weeks old windows 10.

potato specs
RTX 3070 max-q 8Gb
i7-11370h up to 4.3 ghz in TB 4c/8thr
16gb DDR4
500gb nvme ssd

upd: ASUS TUF DASH F15

upd: temperatures in 2 hours stress test,
video - avg 68, max 70
cpu - avg 74 , max 81 (not throttle temps)

Not sure why you are getting those frame rates with a rtx 3070 runs fine on mine

that's what im talking about, other games runs as they need to run, but ED runs like a crap, tried everything what i found in google, nothing helped for me. so, that's why im trying to ask here, maybe someone had same problem and found solution.

Best bet with a laptop first thing to check is your temps as too much heat can cause that issue and some games cause more heat than others . I struggled to control the heat in my old laptop that's why I have a desktop now

Exit the game, delete the files in this folder:

%LocalAppData%\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Graphics\

Then start the game up again. Try the Medium graphics preset to start with, but don't use FSR scaling.

I get better performance than that... And I'm still on a 1060.

Purging the graphics config works about 95% of the time, but if Sighmans suggestion doesn't fix it for you...

DDU. Display Driver Uninstaller. Download that and nuke your graphics driver with it.

Reinstall the latest version manually (don't let windows do it). Choose the advanced options... Just install the graphics driver for now (and physx if you need it in other games). Don't install all the other crap like geforce experience for now.

EDIT: Just realised you're on a laptop. Try everything suggested, and monitor your system temperatures with something like OpenHardwareMonitor. I have a sneaking suspicion like mav001au that either the quadcore CPU (seriously? a modern i7 that's only got 4 cores? WTF were they thinking? lol) or your GPU, are throttling themselves because of heat issues.

Worth checking GPU, CPU, power usage and temps while running the game. You should definitely be able to see really good performance with your rig.

It's optimized like garbage, but your specs are not a potato and should be demolishing through the bad optimization. Make sure your power settings arent on power saver or something for windows

1 turn your fps counter off
2 play the game

i have a 6year old pc with a gtx 1080ti and runs good

15fps in a settlement isn't "good", it's not even playable if combat starts

i know why. its because you have a laptop 3070.
they are no joke like 20 to 30% weaker than a desktop 3070.

your cpu is also like 20% slower than desktop 11th gen i7's due to it being the laptop chip.

and laptop thermals is also probably throttling your speed.

in short buying gaming laptops is a rip off

the laptop you have also has a 4k, 144hz screen.
so if you are playing at 4k the pc is not powerful enough to run it at 4k.

you are basically gaming on a i7 6700 + 1080 with poor thermals @ 4k res with a skin of a 11th gen intel and 3070

play at 1080p mid settings and you will prob hit 60fps in most situations depending on if the pc thermal throttles. if it does you are out of luck.

Probably your laptop is overheating. Check temperatures.
4k? LOL. Don't play 4k.

nope, in full load video 60-70 (normal temperatures), cpu 70-80 (normal too)

yeah, but im playin CP2077 on ultra with medium ray tracing settings with 35-45 fps in 2k, so...

ive made couple tests with friends desktop RTX 2060, my one is almost the same, sometimes 1-5% faster in games and 3d apps.

no, i have full HD native display, im using external 165hz 2k monitor

a 1080 is faster than a 2060.
2060 is just much better at ray tracing but elite does not have that feature. so a 1080 would be better than a 2060 in elite so you saying your card is about the same as a 2060 is in line with my estimation of your 11th gen i7 and 3070 being like a 6th gen I7 and 1080.

so like i said you need to play at 1080p mid settings on elite.
and dont use SS.
you should be able to get 60fps in space and most stations (some have alot going on and you might drop to 40)
most on foot places you will get 60 fps and ground CZ's you will get about 30 fps.
thats what you should expect to get with a pc like yours.

odyssey is still like 2 years off having good optimisation.
its a sad reality but game optimisations can take a very long time especially on engines like elites one.
the optimisation is a engine level issue not a game issue really and you may have seen people say before but engine work tends to take alot longer than to develop the game its self.
odyssey seen elite get an entire new rendering tech.
and with that has come some very bad issues.

other games in similar situations took just as long to fix the optimisations.
dayz standalone comes to mind as a good example.
that game had awful performance for years until it never.
