Saitek X-56 Rhino H.O.T.A.S changed the game
HOLY COW!!! I'm on another level. Just letting everyone know that playing with a H.O.T.A.S system with Elite Dangerous gives you a different experience. Loving the game all over again.

Be gentle with that saitek stuff, trust me it's insides are weaker than wet paper. When they work they are great though, glad you are enjoying it :)

I 2nd this. My x55 now has 3 micro switches with no tactile response in 2 of the hats on the joystick. also my return spring for the z axis is now non existant.
I plan to dissassemble and redesign the pivot base and the grip design... maybe even market the mod :)

What are some alternatives to Saitek for the same price point?
Ankido Sep 15, 2016 @ 4:39pm
How do you use your joystick? Do you beat the crap out of it twisting turning and moving it around like a mad man? Eventually you'll break something like that. I'm gentle as you would be in a real cockpit. No need to jerk the stick trying to bank hard. So far it's been good to me. Breaks, RMA that crap and get a new one.

the new official Elite Dangerous HOTAS form Forntier and Thrustmaster which comes out end of this month for 130 bucks!

Negative on both. x-56 has changed my game experience. Like I said. If it breaks, RMA and get a new one. Treat your products like your children. Unless you beat your children than that's a different story.

umm Saiteks are notorious for breaking thrustmasters look ugly but have better insides. and from what i have read the x-56 has a throttle problem you need to be The Hulk to move it with ease.

Gropax is right as usual. Thrustmaster are cheap, tacky and have rattley buttons. But the internals are great and they last forever, with their expensive stuff even adding decent looks and exterior quality as well. I got my T-Flight about two years ago now, and it's factory new in every way. There's no exterior damage, no loss of function and no extra rattles(aside from the Thrustmaster patented rattly buttons)

Throttle is fine. Does feel stiff but over time it will loosen up some more. No reason to jam the thing back and forth so quickly. Apply light pressure to the thrusters. Gives you the real feeling of being in a ship even though we don't know what that feels like. I would believe it feels like this.

my old X52 non pro is still working fine, at 3 or 4 years old.
Wonder if the new saitek ones are more flimsy as I keep hearing of problems.

Fine in theory except I hardly have used my sticks over the last 12 months because I have hardly played and I'm very genlte with them, even using voice attack so I don't have to press the buttons so much and guess what...

... my 5th x-55 went back and has now been replaced with an x-56, which will be going back because it had problems on arrival.

Even Saitek admitted there were issues, all you need to do is run a few quick googles :)

I'm glad you like yours but do some reasearch online and see the masses of people with issues, hopefully you will be lucky and have none, but even being gentle it would be a surprise if you get more then 8 months out of your stick before it starts failing,

I hope that's not the case though and it serves you well for many years to come :) I just hope after 7 rma's I get a Saitek product that works for more than a few weeks, or at all.

I would highly recommend voice attack to take some wear and tear off the hotas, the stick hats and throttle hats in particular on 4 ofmy sticks have failed within months.Good luck and fly safe :)

Edit: and good luck getting the 3 way toggle to work with some ASUS and MSI boards :(

I've had this experience as well. I don't think the Saiteks are very well built.

Off topic ish.

FANTASTIC NEWS. Madcatz is selling saitek to logitech. They must have made such massive, absurd losses on RMAs they have packed it in.

Maybe now saitek can return to former glory when they release a new design, assuming their goodwill with the community isn't spent out completely :) Praise the Lords of Hotas

I'm guessing you've either not got many hours in game, or you don't do combat...?

This is why people recommend Thrustmaster over Saitek. Saitek is just gimmicky junk that breaks too easily...
