Zinc can be found driving your SRV on planet surfaces:

Zirconium can be found mining or driving the SRV:

Metal Rich - Pristine Belts

use this:

https://eddb.io/system

search for extraction then go to your map to find
Metal Rich - Pristine belts

Also, doesn't the Detailed Surface Scanner now reveal the types & quantities of minerals on a planet's surface just from the system map? You still have to go gathering with the SRV, but at least you can quit wasting your time searching the wrong planets.

I've found http://edmaterializer.com/ to be a useful site. Just put in the name of the system i'm in, and if its been added to their db, shows you which planets have what. Won't always find what you want in the system you look at, but put in a few and you will.

Thanks for your help, but yesterday i've found 9 zinx and 3 zirconium. Both on Planets. Took about an hour to find both.

Yeah, for materials that can be found on surface or mining, you're much better off looking for them on the surface. Mining takes longer and requires more equipment.

i find it the opposite way around... to mine materials you only need a mining laser...
not refinery at all... if you want you can get a limpet controller but thats optional...

surface srv mining takes way way way longer and u need an srv garage and u need to land on a planet... nah i stick to mining!
LocoScratch Sep 10, 2016 @ 2:58am
hhmmm how can you mine materials without a refinery? I did it long time ago but what i remember is that i needed one.
Ray Robertson Sep 10, 2016 @ 3:26am
Materials don't need refining. As a bonus, if you are specifically mining for materials only, collector limpets will only collect materials while you don't have a refinery.

Ah ok, nice to know. Thaks.
