5A Shields - to survive fights, downgrade to 3A if you don't intend to fight at all.
Autodock - saves me time, plot the next route whilst ship is docking. Optional for you.
Advanced Scanner - saves time having to scan the Nav Beacon, also can sell data. Also optional
All this leaves me with 248 tonnes of cargo. If you switch the 5A Shields with 3A ones, you can get 272 tonnes. Getting rid of the Autodock and Scanner gives you 12 more tonnes at 284.
I personally don't have much of a need for Fuel Scoop - fuel is cheap, takes up too much space for cargo, and most volume trading don't really need you to go too far out anyway.
Max size and class the FSD, power distributor and thursters. Even if you don't fight, makes running away easier and less dangerous.
Class D the Life Support and Scanners. To save on mass for jumps.
Class A Power Generator at the smallest size you need. Class A means less overheating.
For weapons I went with all Multicannon gimballs. But this is a personal preference.
Utilities, I find Point Defence really useful, and two Shield Boosters, the largest I can fit. I guess if you aren't fighting, the boosters could easily be replaced or left empty.

And if You have horizons then go get your fsd upgraded
You will want to rank up with farseer get a grade five Boost will give you like five plus ly in your loaded jump range

I know the jump range is not the best, but I don't feel like I'm gaining as much ground as I'd like in my asp explorer.
Yeah, it's not really hot on jump ranges. But as it won't leave the bubble, and most good volume trades are only within 80 LY or so of each other, I think its fine. I guess I could engineer the FSD if I get the right mats. The setup is actually mrraybaker's and others suggestions I burrowd. I'm still tweaking as I go along.
I use EDDB, only because I'm use to it, seems reasonably accurate and lets me put paramters like max jump distance for trades (not to go over the 85 or so LY in my Python). No idea if its any better than Slopey or Thurdd, though I'm happy to hear from anyone with more knowledge if its the case.
