And a realization that the game isn't dead.
But I found out how friendly and kind the Elite Dangerous community is, just from this thread! And even though I have not left the Pilot Federation District, I think this game is fun.
Thank you to everybody who replied! o7, CMDR darkbeetle out
All games die, they are from the moment they release. Just like people are dying from the moment they are born.
The only thing to do is enjoy it while its alive.
There's no doubt that interest in the game is waning. Steam players are the lowest since 2019 and still going down. Also Obsidian Ant just made a Youtube video showing the interest in the game from Google searches, which also shows it declining.
Having said that, we wait in hope that the promised new content to be released in August will revive it; however, history shows a lot of dashed hopes with this game.
No Man's Sky is presently the champion of space games according to Google interest.

"Social" only works for those who want a social game.
ED has always been in this strange place between MMO and single player game and therefore attracts people who either like that sort of mix or are from the extremes.
I'd wager that most either like the single player experience or the MMO experience, and those who enjoy the in-between a minority. Meaning you end up with a community of players who tend to grouch about the game not being what they want.
Doing what you suggest might make it perfect for those who like the MMO side of things, but it would disenfranchise those who enjoy the other side of things.
However, its a bit strange you talk about the game being more social, that is more MMO like, when every single MMO is built around the grind.
