Can't complete Planetary Scan Job
Something is not right with this Planetary Scan Job mission I decided to undertake a few hours ago. The objective was to locate a data panel, scan it, and bring the data back to the space station where I first got the mission (I think it was Hopkins Station).
The first time I located the data panel, I was without an SRV (whoops.) I flew inside the "no trespass zone" for a few seconds, but nothing bad happened. I then left the site where the data panel was located, and went to some other nearby space station to go buy an SRV. I then and went back to the site. This time I entered the "no trespass zone" and the turret starts shooting at me. I blow it up, and I get a bounty on my head as a result (that sucked, but it's not a big deal. I can pay off 900 cr)
Now THIS is where things start to feel off. As soon as I scanned the data panel, I get a message from Mother Gaia (this other unrelated faction whom I am allied with) saying they're glad I "took the bait" and now they want me to go kill some guy in a different system. I just want to complete this planetary scan job, so I "declined" their message.
I checked my transactions page and it still says the Planetary Scan Job is active, nothing unusual. But when I go to check my Galaxy Map, the system where I am supposed to deliver the data to is no longer highlighted. Usually when I do any kind of mission, the final destination is always highlighted. Despite this, I go to the system where I am supposed to deliver the data, enter Hopkins Station, and open up the Missions panel. The problem is, I can't complete the mission. There is no "turn in" or "deliver data" button to click on; it's as though the mission never existed in the first place. I turn to my transactions panel again, and it says the mission is still active, but I can not complete it.

What the HECK happened here? Did that message from Mother Gaia just break the mission? Is it possible for another faction to upstage a mission you're doing and replace it with a completely different task? Is it common for mission to break when you visit the site where you're supposed to collect the data multiple times? I don't know what to do now, but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sometimes with those missions, I'd scan the data point in question but the mission wouldn't complete, so I'd have to warp out and go back to scan the data point again.
When the mission does complete, you should get an inbox message saying that the scan is complete, and a little later a message that you can return for payment.

So scan the data point a couple more times and see what happens.

Also, you don't need an SRV for those missions, just fly up to the data point with your ship so that you can select it, and use the ship's data link scanner.

Wow...that bug is back again?

....not really surprised, not with their track record and other returning bugs.

Not sure it was ever fixed, just some of us being lucky enough not to trigger it, haha.

Update: It worked!

I went back to the site again and scanned the data panel. Everything went smoothly from there, and this mission is now behind me.
