abandoning vs jettison cargo question
I notice that there are two options for jettison cargo. One is simply jettison, the other is jettison (abandon). Now I had assumed that if you used jettison (abandon) that would tell any limpets you have out that you don't want it, dont pick up. But thats not right because my limpets pick up anything thats outsice the ship and stuff it in the cargo hold. If there was a nuke about to go off and it was in their range they would pick it up and stuff it in my cargo hold. They are tenacious little buggers. To the point of annoying me at times.

So, two questions:

1. what is the purpose of jettison (abandon)?

and

2. Is there any way to tell my limpets NOT to pick something up?

abandon doesnt flag it as illegal cargo for others to pick up.

1. It will mark the dropped cargo as legal salvage to other players, when you actualy want to give something to someone else and not make them a criminal.

2. Not really, only by specifically targeting an item, the collector limpet will pick it up then run out of power once it delivers it, meaning it'll pick nothing else up. That's just a waste of a collector limpit imo.

I need them for mining......not really optional. And sometimes I can't clear the junk out of the refinery quick enough and I get some crap refined and in my cargo hold. Dang near impossable to get rid of after that......wall not impossable but a pain in the butt.

You know that seem to be the case everywhere except mining. I have tried to get these persisstant little buggers to go away by targeting something. They just keep on going. Only that way while mining.

Thanks guys, I guess that answers my questions. Wish there was a way to control the limpets a bit better, but adapt, overcome, improvise, is my motto.

At risk of necroing a thread. You can access “contacts” via the left panel, select a cargo or material and add it to an ignore list. Limpets will no longer get that type.

Jettisoning cargo drops it but you still retain ownership. Abandoning deletes ownership. If you accidentally pick up illegal salvage and jettison it, a cop can still give you a fine because you retained ownership. If you abandon it, you are no longer tied to it.

Congrats on answering a 3 year old question...that had already been answered 3 years ago. Well done.

Well, to be fair, the "new" answer - you can add it to the Ignore list - didn't exist three years ago. And I believe that limpets have actually been reprogrammed so that they don't pick up jettisoned cargo unless you order them to. But it's probably a bit late to help the OP now.

Nope, but it did 6 months ago.

Dang! I asked this question in 2016. LOL. Necro doesn’t quite cover it. Raised from dust maybe?
