FAS versus Alliance Chieftain
Which one is better, which one poses greater threat in combat in terms of packing punch, durability and steering?
I'm torn between these two, but something tells me go for Fas. Don't care about looks, hell I even look that tanky look of Fas, in flight Chieftain is large and thus easier to hit.

I cannot speak for the FAS but i can tell you: The Chieftain is extremly agile for its size, fast and has a lot of firepower. Looking at coriolis i notice the Chieftain has 1 size-6 module-slot you could use for stronger shields than the FAS (size 5)...... other than that they look pretty much on par.

But like all Lakon ships it has a glass jaw, so you need to be careful not to get the canopy shot out.

You don't need ranks for chief, other than that they are pretty similar in everthing but the hardpoint layout

they're about equal. on paper, the Cheiftain can have a bit more firepower because it has 3 small hardpoints instead of a medium...so if you're setting it up with with certain weapons the Chief will have a bit more firepower at the expense of more power and distributor draw.

The FAS has better manuverability.

however these are marginal differences that make little practical difference. For all intents and purposes they'll be about equal 90% of the time.

I have flown in Fed space mostly so now I can buy FAS. I did some comparisons on coriolis and yeah both ships are pretty much the same on paper.
Really hard choice, FAS is has more compact silhouette while Chief being a bit wide can mount more varied weapons.

Chieftain is generally superior, compared to fas, it has :

1. No rank requirement
2. Better jump range
3. Faster normal cruise speed
4. 1 more C4 military slot
5. More weapons (3 small guns are way better than 1 medium gun) with better convergence
6. Bigger biggest class internal slot
7. Better shield

Fas advantages are :
1. Slightly better yaw
2. Better boost speed
3. More internal slots albeit smaller (a class 3 internal slot VS a class 4 military slot on the chieftain)
4. Slightly better hull points

That's it, chieftain stomp the fas IMO.

dont forget the bigger shields.

on paper their maneuverability is exactly the same and FAS has 80t more base weight.

Also plasmas don't exist in small size and railguns don't exist in large size.
If that makes a differance for you

That's exactly what I said. these are marginal differences the average player won't notice. The Chief is basically equal to the FAS without the rank grind.

I still prefer the FAS but its more personal preference and the fact I already have one built and set up exactly how I want so switching would gain me nothing and I'd have to waste building it, setting it up, and testing.

I have never flown a Chieftain, but on thing I have noticed is that they have a massive target profile from pretty much any angle. The FAS is no Eagle, but it's a much smaller target than a Chieftain.

A thing that bothers me a bit about the FAS is the hard point placement. If you are using gimballs you need to lead quite a bit or stay back to make sure both the top and bottom guns are active.

I'm just going to put this out there and call it good:

The FDL is a combat ship on which *many* pilots compare all other ships in terms of sheer performance and firepower.

The Alliance Chieftain is superior to the FDL. Not by a lot...but by a bit.

And making it better than the FDL, even by a little bit - makes it the best combat ship in its class.

That's just my opinion from playing the game for almost 1,700 hours...so...you know, take it for what it's worth.
