What options do I have for Fer-De-Lance Huge Hardpoint weapon?
Hi all, was hoping you guys could help me, I've been looking through eddb to the best I can, but I cant seem to figure out what good options I have for my huge hardpoint on the FDL. Currently I just have a lvl 3 Beam Laser. I'm hoping for something gimbal aim because I suck at aiming lol. But I may be open to learning proper targeting if you'd suggest some kind of cannon or other gun that doesnt have gimbal. My FDL seems weak as sh-one-t at the moment :(

really I'd like to see a list of all weapons that can ONLY fit on the huge hardpoint.

Alright, listen up. I'm gonna learn you a thing or two about the FDL.

The huge hardpoint can fit up to a size 4 weapon. Take advantage of it. The size 3 beam you have is a waste.

If you use a joystick, then aiming is hard. Stick to gimballed weapons. If you have a mouse, your aim is much more precise, and you can shoot fixed weapons with ease.

If you prefer gimballed, then try this loadout: 4x size 2 gimballed efficient multicannons, 3 with incindeary one with corrosive. 1x size 4 gimballed rapid-fire multicannon, incindeary. The incindeary rounds will melt shields and armor alike, and the single corrosive multicannon will remove any resistances that the target's hull may have, weakening them to further damage. The huge multicannon fires slower than then mediums, but with a grade V rapid fire, all your weapons will empty at roughly the same rate, making it easy to keep your DPS up. With the efficiency mods, you won't have to distribute power to the multis much, 1 and a half pips is plenty. Put the rest in engines and systems. Gimballed weapons are weak to chaff, if your target uses chaff, then de-target them and blind-fire your weapons for a while as if they were fixed. This works best on large targets and if you get in close. Don't forget to use chaff yourself, and watch your shields. The multicannons shouldn't cause too much heat, but keep and eye on that too. You won't need a heatsink, just stop firing for a second if you overheat.

If you like fixed, then stick a huge efficient PA on there along with four fixed efficient multicannons. I can't tell you much more than that because I hate fixed.

Use bi-weave shields. You don't have much space inside, so make the largest slot a 5C bi-weave generator, get thermal resist upgrades for it, get 5 A-rated shield boosters, resistance augmented for all of them. NO SHIELD CELL BANKS. You don't have room. Hulltank the rest of the internals, all hull reinforcements save for one module reinforcement. No fuelscoop, nothing else. You don't have room. When done right, this should give you 1000 mj of fast recharge bi-weave shielding, and almost 2000 points of armor integrity, all with high resistances.

I have a cannon. A huge cannon. With force shell.

Its fun. Small ships go spinning.

If you want a list of huge weapons, here you go:

Huge multicannon (gimballed or fixed)
Huge cannon (gimballed or fixed)
Huge pulse/burst/beam laser (gimballed or fixed)
Huge Plasma Accelerator (fixed only)

That's about it. Your options are limited, your choice for mediums will determine your huge hardpoint.

thanks guys. But when I search 'Huge' in eddb it comes up with nothing. Is it like 4D Multi Cannon or 4A is better?
I personally have a huge fixed beam.

i play with x360 gamepad. i can grab the mouse to go kbm, but my brain just doesnt remember all the keyboard keys :/ I've gone for gimbal 4A Multi- Cannon, and I still have my 4x 2D Gimbal Beams. I'll see how this performs :)

I run a huge cannon on my Conda, it's a lot of fun, eats armor and can even bust through shields (on weaker shields at least). Also relatively cheap (at 2.7mil) and the power requirement won't cost your power plant an arm and a leg either! A huge cannon on something as maneuverable as the FDL would probably be too much fun.

Let us know what you decide on!

hi again. Well, Im currently stuck with my 2D Beams Gimbal (x4) but I did get the huge multi-cannon. I must be really bad at fighting becoz it just feels like it does nothing . I took a mission to kill 4 pirates, it said rank Mostly Harmless (which i think im much higher becoz i had a viper and i used to constantly do bounty hunting), anyway I killed one pirate but he damaged my hull to 38% (repair and ammo costeed about the whole mission payout). I searched another spot after repairing, and there was several pirates there, I managed to single one of them out and fight and had to run away just after taking his shields down becoz I was at 77% hull already and he was firing missiles etc. I alreaady own the chaff, ECM and other bits n bobs but I dont think im using them correctly. I feel a bit sad as was looking forward to being able to put up a good fight in my FDL but so far I havent found it much stronger than my old viper i had for years.

also i have the best (i think) power generator and management thingy. both of the power modules cost well over 5M each. But if I blaze my weapons, before even i finish the weapon bar (the power bar for weapons i mean) I get the ship screaming at me saying Temperature Critical etc etc Taking Heat Damage.

On my Anaconda I've settled with a huge multicannon with G5 Rapidfire + incendiary. Pythons and Federal ships disintegrate in seconds. Other Anacondas are just pummeled mercilessly. It really needs the rapidfire mod to make it worthwhile.

Ah i didnt know there were gun mods, lol no wonder im losing many fights.Sadly, I feel screwed now becoz I cant afford to upgrade, and missions cost me more than I get paid. Its almost a gameover situation for me. Im stuck with data-convoy i think lol

any idea about my "Temperature Critical" problem whenever I fire my weapons for more than 2 seconds?

Better (aka. A grade) Powerplant should help with heat problems.

Also Lasers produce a lot of heat. So use either more projectile weapons or don't hold the trigger and drain your capacitor completely. The more empty it goes, the more heat you generate.
Alternatively you can get efficient weapon upgrade for your lasers.
