Voice Attack chit chat
VA is great for ED, but Im always looking to add extra little chats to enhance my experience. I have everything set up for navigating the game, playing music, feeding into Hutton Orbital radio or Radio Sidewinder, all with voice. Works flawlessly.

But I managed to impress even myself with a new bit of chit chat. I was thinking of how I could give a deliberately vague command, and have Orion (its ace having Mr Shatner controlling things for you) try to get some clarity from you. So it goes:

Me: Push the button

Orion: What was that? I didn't quite hear you. Do you want me to get us out of here?

Me: Yeah, I want you to jump

Orion: No problem. Charging now. (charges drive).

End.

Instead of saying yeah, I want you to jump, if i say:

Me: Actually, I meant for you to take a picture

Orion: Aaah...ok. Good. Taking a picture now (takes a pic).

If I ignore him, he says..ok thats fine, I'll wait.

Not sure its worth starting a new thread for, but Im pretty chuffed :)

I'm pretty sure you'll get more responses from some visual novel dude, rather than an answering machine.

^ This.
Play elite with someone and talk to them instead. Frontier even added a radio effect and chatter noises to the in-game voicechat for extra I M M E R S I O N

I play around 75% of time either winged or in mc.

Rest of time I like to use va.

I'm not judging, just saying that VAs are pretty annoying for their price and actual contents. You're better off listening to codex entries (which are pretty well voiced, imo) or audiobooks or radio. C'mon, you don't really think humanity will place their hands in some AI, when it was just that which destroyed the Guardians?

Dunno. Just at the right age now to remember when computers first came out and how amazed I was then. Ataris, spectrums etc. To think that I can now play live with others or I can control a space ship with my voice...just amazes me. Its a big difference from that to this. Thats prob why I like va.

Ive the hcs va, I dont find it annoying in the slightest if Im honest.

Sorry that you dont share my enthusiasm.

I do, dood, I do. I grew up on pen and paper games, X series and Ultima games. I was just as amazed then as I am today about great games. I also posses imagination that tells me AIs such as OpenAI have bigger scope than prerecorded VA ones. It's just a pretty package that is charming for some hours. Then the charm goes away and you find out that it's not really that needed, the responses are very automatical and a nusance, and buying new voice packs just a marketing scam.

If you have the va program, you dont need a voice pack. You can set specific replies that are voiced by your pc speech engine voice.

By specific I mean you can have it call you by name if you want. If you want it to swear at you, if thats your bag, it will. The limit is only your patience or imagination.

You are limited with the voice packs, but you get so many different responses, you never get a repeat if you are pedantic, like I am.

I get your point about the packs, but not the software.

My 9 Year old trained it/set it up so that when he said his brother's name, it replied "Launching the idiot." His older brother is now working on his retort.

I got Voice Attack for about $10.
I never got a voice pack for the game.
I made my own basic commands.
I made more complex commands.
I solve many game control issues with VA making special macros.
For fun I made a full personality for my pc and it reacts in Elite also.
The personality works amazingly well.
I don't enjoy the personality and don't use it now.
Making it was fun and friends always want to chat with it.
You will find many tutorials for Voice Attack.
Be warned, there is endless work you can do making your own AI personality.

That sounds like a blast. I'm hoping I can get it to function similarly to an astromech droid in star wars(only speaking English instead of beeping). I want it to help me with countermeasures, targeting modules, and navigation/docking requests. Being able to chat with it would be a MASSIVE bonus.

I don't think you have it or have even used it; you have a basic misunderstanding of what it is.

i think what you are searching for is something like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDkC0GORdQ8&feature=emb_title

these packs are offered by HCS:
https://www.hcsvoicepacks.com/

they are worth any cent

they great thing is its gets feedback from the game and can respond to that
like if you near to empty fuel it reminds you and much more

for me the PC-Voice are just awful, i dont like how they sound.
I will choose packs at any time and HCS Packs are huge. You can even mix them so you can create a "Crew" that are respond to different ship systems

have fun and o7
