Odyssey materials trading on Inara
Inara just added an experimental feature which allows you to search for fleet carriers buying or selling Odyssey engineering materials (all kinds, not just the stuff you can buy or trade at station bars.)

https://inara.cz/market-materials/

Set trade type to buy or sell (or leave blank for both), enter the materials you want (more than one can be entered) and then put your current system in 'near star'.

If you're running EDDiscovery or similar, and you're logged into inara, 'near star' will already show your current location in game. I recommend you always do both.

Always check the 'updated' time, and perhaps stick to data which is very recent. Something posted 2-3 days ago has probably vanished already.

Yep, I synced with Inara and sure enough my bar goods showed up. Very nice to have and looking forward to further use of the data 👍

It is your choice whether to take on suggestions or not. AJ24 is trying to help Elite players progress in the game, not present players with difficulties.

This is a discussion forum and game specific problems like yours should probably be posted on forums.frontier.co.uk . Don't hold your breath though.

A significant part of the game can be gathering materials. If a player wants to follow an engineering upgrade path, they need to identify the required materials and how/where to gather them. If not, it will take a lot longer to upgrade ships, suits and weapons. It might look daunting, but you don't have to do everything at once.

A player does't have to grind for upgrades. That is the choice in Elite. It is perfectly possible to play the game only using credits to purchase the best modules and ignore engineering completely.

The number of entries that are shown in the list at once is down to Inara, not Frontier.

I think a lot of the currently-unused items are for future Odyssey upgrades.

Ah this is nice. I don't remember how to add carrier services, its been a while, but I'll figure it out and pimp my ride. I'm sure I have inane amounts of stuff I don't need lol.

Ship schematics: sounds cool, could be used for something, orrr just various qualities of loot items to sell for small cash flow and nothing will manifest from it.
Lots of game have various low level loot items with no actual use; Far Cry 4 is a good example. We can't use it as decor, like the decorative junk piles of Oblivion.

When they added the Colonia engineers a bunch of previously useless stuff was suddenly needed. I'm sure it'll be the same for the rest.

Remember that none of the ship engineering mats are useless. They're all used in something.

Yes, but they didn't have to add 5 different mats for each upgrading type. They could have reused most of mats. Then we wouldn't be ending up with over a thousand of different mats that you can't possibly remember what each one is needed for.

Yes, they reuse some of mats, but not enough. We still have too many of different mats to remember which ones to bring to an engineer. And we can't see which ones are needed until we actually visit an engineer. This is a bad design.
