1080 is plenty adequate... malic streams in VR 100% of the time and he has a 1080...but 970 is a minimum requirement so wouldnt be as good as 1080 or higher

I run a 1080TI and agree with jay flawless, HTC vive,
I've got a 1080 sc (i5 6400) and run vr ultra with good results. A hicup here and there but pretty darn good for the most part.
Edit: Forgot to mention Oculus Rift here and the visuals are fantastic.

I've been playing on a Vive running on an R9 280 and a SUPER OLD i7 (860 i think). I loved every minute of it. Stuttered everyone one in a while especially inside stations but it was still awesome. That being said, I did just purchase a 1080ti
I've used these nvidia cards in VR: GTX 980, 1060, and 1070. For some reason, the 980 was the worst despite generally benching higher than the 1060. I chalk it up to Pascal being better optimized for VR. 1070 is much more pleasant than the rest, but I consider just "good enough". A 970 would probably work, but with no supersampling, and most of the settings would be low, with maybe one or two things medium. Personally, I'd like to buy a 1080ti.

I think I'm at SS 1.2 and HMD 1.75.
For me changing HMD wasn't causing any extra workload for my card, so I always put it to max (2.0), as it does directly impacts the image sharpness.

The SS of 1.2 looks very nice, but a plain 1080 GTX can't handle it without shuttering being too unbearable. I need that Ti now. :)

I have just checked and I am on SS 1.25 and HMD 1.75.

I've amended mine to this setting now. do you think it's better to have a higher HMD setting or higher SS? I can't make my mind up but I can't set them both high or I do get judder in space stations etc., and I can't abide that.

malic has a regular 1080, he runs it SS 0.5 and HMD 2.0 and hes probably the one that uses VR most in Elite lol...you can even catch him on Twitch sometimes and ask him questions about it too (as i have)

Malic is very knowledgable when it comes to Oculus Rift or VR in general, i link his Twitch here.

few days ago he told me keep HMD at 2.0 if you can...the supersampling wont make that much a difference in VR

If he still runs it at SS 0.5, then you probably don't want to ask him questions. :)

The graphical performance of the game was improved many months ago, and since then allowed to run a regular 1080 at 1.0, or at very least at 0.8.

I concur, now I've disabled a few ephemeral settings I can run at HMD 2.0 and SS 1.25 on the 1080Ti. I can't imagine the 1080 is that far behind.

he just doesnt see it necessary in VR to put ss at 1

The difference between SS 0.5 and SS 1.0 is so Earth-shaking, that if he doesn't see it necessary, then my comment still stands its grounds. I couldn't even tolerate going back to SS 0.65 from 0.75, the times before the optimisation.
