I believe something could be setup, but I can't see them developing it, because they would have to develop all the VR interactive physics in their engine.
Will the 2D screen mode even render in stereoscopic 3D, like a VorpX immersive screen (I've played some third person games this way)?
Let's hope the next jump in vr comes in a couple years not 40.
PS. It's pretty obvious Elite's VR implementation is stuck in the age of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ rez headsets like the DK1, all the UI elements are absolutely too big for current VR hardware, only worsening the "cramped" feeling.
I bought a HP Reverb G2 so the movie screen effect would at least have high enough resolution so I wouldn't just be better off in 2d mode.
Plus it's just one aspect of the game, you still can play all the other stuff like normal and they will add new stuff in time and give you something to look forward too.
Problem is you're not providing feedback to Frontier by posting on Steam. They have zero presence here aside from posting news topics to the announcements section, none of which they stick around to interact with any of the resulting comments on.
If you want it to be seen by Frontier you really need to take it to the official forums.
you vote with your wallet, nothing stupid about that
Related to the topic: as someone who has on the order of 600 hours in Elite, exclusively in VR, Frontier have had the premier VR game (surpassed only by Alyx according to friends who have played both) basically since it came out. Someone above mentioned a Star Wars game, I can only imagine Squadrons, that is equally as stunning in VR, but the gameplay isn't as in depth for obvious reasons (I would argue that's where it falls flat compared to Elite, not VR implementation).
That's a fancy way of saying I'm disappointed in their decision to not have Odyssey launch with VR, but I'm sure they want to take their time and do it right, which I think I can trust them to do. I, personally, would be satisfied with just using the MKB in VR; let me look around and maybe give me a free cursor controlled by the mouse for aiming; I'm really reconsidering picking up Odyssey on launch because of the transition from VR to flat. I don't like theater mode, and I would honestly be happier if they let us toggle VR on and off like MSFS does. I would much, much rather do that and just take the headset off for a bit. Hell, just render it on the main screen and have the HMD say "please remove your headset."
I would think launching with something basic like that would be doable, and if they're interested in adding motion controllers or something could follow, but c'est la vie.
Which VR headset you bought? I'm thinking on buying one too, but the Oculus requiring Facebook sign in puts me off :-/
There’s a campaign asking for very basic access to 'VR Legs'. (IE a hacky backdoor to the VR view on foot, which EDVR veterans could possibly nudge into a playable experience).
The idea is that it could be some fan service that FDev could provide within their current VR plan and budget.
Drop by here if you’d like to know more :)
