Guardian Material Trader
So I returned to a guardian structure to collect more mats and was not surprised to get drops that I have too many already :/

We need a guardian mat trader!

I remember reading you have to trigger the guardian orb to pop once and can scan obelisks by reloading from SRV, right? Do I just offer 2 ancient relics and does this activate 2 sentinels that I have to fight? I found myself out of practice fighting just one day :/

No we don't.

Right.

You only need one relic. I am not aware that the number of relics has anything to do with the number of sentinals that appear.

Here is how I do it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WmF_NyDpB8c

The description has the breakdown.

Thanks @Hairball.

I didn't say number of relics offered determine number of sentinels except saw videos where at least 2 of them spawn. So just 2?

In your video description, "I always park my medium-sized ship near the final shrine so as to be able to make a quick escape once the blueprint has been obtained as all hell will break loose", what happens when you have scanned all the obelisks? I also read if ship has PD, it can help shoot down sentinels except I forgot to bring one again :/

Also, didn't you confirm I can reload from SRV and re-scan all obelisks without re-activating the shrine?

Edit: Why No to guardian mat trader - you enjoy the grind?

Yeah hairball what would be wrong with adding a mat trader for guardian stuff? Seems like a decent idea to me.

Oh, I guess I misunderstood you.

It seems like at least two sentinals appear for each pylon that comes up out of the ground.

When you obtain the final blueprint, by "all hell breaking out" I mean that a lot of sentinals appear. I have not counted them but seems like about 5 or more.

I don't know if a PD helps.

As for no guardian mat trader ... just my opinion. If there was such a mat trader then there would be little need to go out to the ruins. Gathering guardian mats is not as onerous as gathering the raw\encoded\manufactured mats IMO.

Hmm, I'm confused now b/c I was there this morning and no sentinels spawned when the pylons rose except for 2 that spawn left/right of the shrine.

Last time here was pre-3.1 and I didn't have to activate shrine to scan obelisks and no other sentinels apart from the 2 mentioned above spawned despite scanning all obelisks after reload from SRV. I know 3.1 addressed this bug but didn't know sentinels also spawn after scanning all obelisks. If so, do we just log out after scanning the obelisks and hope sentinels don't kill us before the 10 secs timer?

We have guardian & human tech brokers plus human mat trader, hence it's only logical for a guardian mat trader too.

By pylon I mean the ones that rise up and that you have to shoot. Maybe you are thinking of something else.

You just want to farm obelisks and I have made no claims about those.

Re re guardian mat trader: the number of mats that you have to collect for guardian tech is so much smaller compared to how much raw\encoded\manufactured mats you need for engineers is why I don't think guardian mat traders are needed. It has nothing to do with "logic" or some notion of in-game symmetry. Just IMO.

To unlock all the Guardian technology you need fewer guardian mats than your max limit is. If you have too many of some kind, then you already have too many.

This differs with regular engineering, where you need many more than your max limit is.

I know the requirements to unlock guardian tech are somewhat less than human tech but:

1. you have to travel far to guardian sites and grind for guardian mats;

2. RNG usually drops more common than rare guardian mats;

3. Blueprints are worse b/c you need to re-activate the shrine and fight multiple sentinels to be able to re-scan obelisks.

Mat traders were introduced so it's less grindy to get rare mats or data.

I've just completed collecting enough Guardian material to unlock *ALL* of the current Guardian tech (plus a little extra for any future additions). By the time I had collected enough blueprints, I had enough of all the other materials except for 2 - and these were fairly easy to get.
The module materials were a bit of a pain to get - the terrain at the site was *terrible*, and 4 Sentinels appear after you have scanned the blueprint. The site for the weapons tech was MUCH easier to navigate, and I never faced more than 2 Sentinels at any time.
But - it's all done now; I'll probably *never* have to visit a Guardian site to unlock something again - ever.
But I've just discovered that the fun only starts now; getting the other materials required to actually unlock the Guardian tech at the Tech Broker involves buying hard-to-find commodities, and earning others by doing missions - more fun & games. Luckily I have already stocked up on all the other materials needed (raw, manufactured and data).
I'll be very satisfied when this entire process has completed.

I need to do this soon myself.

This is a prime example of the need for cargo storage. I would like to gather them with my cutter, but deliver them ith my conda :)

You do know that almost everything in that list is mats, and you already have the storage for them? And the cargo stuff you can buy at many places just on the way of you delivering them to a trader.

i think you need to read the list again. meta alloys are not mats, nor are Magnetic Emitter Coils

tech brokers are not engineers :)
