Sol unlocks with the rank of petty officer so very quick grind.

Also, no reason not to run Horizons if you've got it. It offers more mission options and access to planet bound resources, etc.
Not to mention you can customize your pilot! (insert dorky excitement)
I'd boot that up asap and get the whole experience if you're interested in it.
Yeah you cant land on every planet....when I got to Sol (which is my base now) I was disappointed. Cant even go to Earths moon.
I mean you can do a fly by or sit and look at it....but that about it
Yeah the limit on planetary landings on atmospheric planets kinda makes me sad.
I like to create a head-cannon excuse that is;
Through Galactic law, space crafts are banned from planetary traffic to or from "class 1" planets i.e. - inhabitable, atmospheric, earth-like, etc.

It doesn't take long to get that permit however, there are some far more annoying.
All these worlds are yours. Except Europa. Attempt no landing there. And the moon. And anything with an atmosphere.

Well, when I launch the game I have a choice: Run Elite Dangerous, Run Elite Dangerous Horizon, Run Elite Dangerous VR. I thought that “Horizon” is more advance / next level gameplay and that I should start with classic Elite Dangerous. Am I to understand that Elite Dangerous Horizon is same as Elite Dangerous but with additional elements? If so, why to give me such choice? I would be grateful for comment on that. And will I be able to load my save game from ED when launching EDH?

I would like to thank You for appearing on this topic at all. I usually visit peoples profiles to see (if possible) what kind of games they possess. In that way I sometimes finds interesting games. That exactly was the case in your case :-) I’ve found in your Library game “Space Engineers” (of which I’ve never heard before) and after checking its gameplay on YT I’ve bought it immediately. Now I have two really cool game about Space / Universe – each different with its own amazing advantages.

Getting back to Elite Dangerous – I’ve bought this game after watching on YT how one guy landed on Iapetus (one of Saturn moons) and was exploring it in a rover. I saw an AMAZING sights of the Milky Way from the surface of that moon and I simply fell in love with this game that moment.
I’m really Glad this game has so much Fans whom are keen to help/support others / new players.
Merry Christmas to You All!
ED = SPAAACE
EDH = PLAAANETS
=)
And yes; same savegame for both.
ED & SE are also my two favourite space games; ~2k hours in both, i'm a nerd for space. 8)
Merry Christmas.
And while Christmas is a time of celebration and that frequently involves a drink or ten, don't overdo it while playing Elite, otherwise you can wake up the next day wondering why you are back in a Sidewinder docked in a station hundreds of LY from where you were.
