I got several, myself. But mostly for role playing.
Presumably you can also see some of it if you look down. But yeah, it's mostly similar to paint jobs on ships, you're not going to see those unless you're specifically trying to see them, either. Something neat to buy that helps support the game, but doesn't have a big impact.
You see it all the time in VR. It's what your virtual body wears. Beyond that though I dont see the point of it.
It should show your new outfit, viewed from debug cameras. Try to relogin after applying your new Holo-me, maybe the game didn't update your outfit right away?
You do save the changes before browsing between Holo-me modification screens?
Suppose it will really come into its own when we get space legs.
For me, it was a way to support Frontier by purchasing ARX and spending a bit on the way I look. I'm a sucker for this sort of thing anyway, so it all works out quite nicely. And since I'm on board with Elite now for the long-run, I'm hoping it will one day pay off even more when I'm strolling through a station on my way to having a drink with an old friend, and everyone I see can be awed by my bold baldness and flashy duds.
I like taking screenshots using the different cameras so it adds a little bit more of immersion for me. Having a pilot you customised makes it feel less like you're just a ship flying around.
