Get yourself a Viper, a Vulture or a Cobra and dive right in, no engineering, no regrets.
And regarding the original question in OP, you'll find it is pretty hard these days finding something that isn't either locked behind a grind wall, P2W wall, or worst case both.
Without being a full-blown simulation that is, and the glory days of those are long gone anyway.
There used to be a fight club of sorts. Stock sidewinders only.
Also, if you join the San Tu guys, forget the name, but its basically PvPers who want fights with other PvPers you can organize them. They usually are up for anything from stock ships, to same class ships (they have certain rules, like they treat the Vulture as a medium) or just bring whatever you want to the fight.
Decent guys most of them, spent some months on their discord helping them out with their BGS.
That is extremely subjective, bc it wholly depends on whether you're talking anti/ganking, or coordinated PVP tournaments, and the stock sidewinder runs are still a thing.
cheers
To me everything in this game besides the combat feels like an an arbitrary grind put in place to balance MMO games, none of it feels like im taking part in a simulation like in classic space sims or even newer ones that arent multiplayer.
A modern space sim without the mmo feels would be perfect. But im mostly interested in 6dof "newtonian" dogfighting in general so any game with an active dueling community would be fine. I know communities exit like that in elite but im still interested in finding other communities in other games.
Hunternet Starfighter (http://www.cpudreams.com/) has what im looking for, you can get a key to the alpha through there discord if you mention your want to test the 6dof dogfighting even though its technically a closed alpha. It perfect for what im talking about its just extremely new and hasnt built a community yet, but something along the lines of that games but with a mature community would be great.
Evochron was the other game i hadnt tried but it seemed like it delved into 4x style gameplay like the X series and thats not what i want, but it looks like the flying mechanics are if anyone know more.
