So, no way to teleport near a friend's ship ?
Even if you both got a bit separated during your first few hours of play you should still be relatively close to each other.
Exactly how far are you from each other? Did you both leave the new systems really quickly and then proceed to fly in opposite directions?
Sorry, but something here smells like a week dead fish.
Well, thanks for your answer, I guess I won't last long here.
I thought a game was about having fun, not wasting time in pointless activity. Well, they seems to think otherwise.
We did start in the same system if I remember well, lost our first cession doing data delivery run (aka the least co-op mission of all time), then our 2nd cession trying to wonder what was the point of multicrew in early game ships, and our 3rd cession trying to find how to join each other.
We played solo between our co-op cession and get "a bit" separate, he was 10 jumps away from me while I was at 15+ jumps away from him. Maybe it doesn't seems much for you, but it actually takes a lot of time to just play together, with the idea in mind we'll have to get back to our initial system after that.
Anyway the distance doesn't matter, the point is they didn't add a thing as simple as "join a friend"
And they didn't add it, deliberately, because being able to instantly teleport your ship to right next to a friend would make no sense whatsoever. From what you have said, this is clearly not the game for you.
Wait "till one of your missions sends you to a station that's 30 minutes to an hour(or more) away from the star you land at(yes they do really exist), then come back and complain... lol
Or like mentioned above, the journey to beagle point, would be hundreds of thousands of jumps for the ships you probably have.
But, if you want to play together, just pick a system for you to both operate out of, and decide together when and where to move base, because you will travel, a lot. Especially when you decide to unlock engineers, which I still haven't started, it's a major pain.
So, why not fly towards each other then? Pick a system roughly halfway between you. Let's say 5 jumps for him, 7 for you. That's 5 mins of travel for him and 7 for you.
Hardly daunting.
The issue with "join a friend" is it would allow people to simply teleport wherever they wanted in the galaxy. This would affect a lot of mechanics in the game.
Imagine being able to teleport your ship wherever, you'd be able to totally exploit trade between system systems with no travel time required. It would be totally abused by Powerplay players for sure.
If 5-10 minutes to meet up is too onerous, then yeah, ED is definitely not the game for you.
Exploration is not pointless, forced jumps are.
Ofc we tried to join each other, but since we had different ships with different jump ability our itinerary were completly different, we then wasted a dozen of minutes to try to figure which system was the closer of both of us before we finally agree it'd be faster if he does the travel alone to join me.
The "exploit" thing is irrelevant, empty my ship when i join him and when i go back to my solo play, and... no exploit possible.
You mean, no sense except actually playing together instead of traveling to join each other ? Complete nonsense i agree...
Well, anyway i have my answer (thanks to Andromalius) and i'm uninstalling it but let's put it that way :
You want to relax for a while with your friend by playing Fifa.
But oh, wait, before you start playing soccer, you both have to get to the stadium!
Well, you live in Marseille and he lives in Paris, well, now you can spend 7 hours in your car to reach him.
Sounds tedious? Don't worry, you'll soon be able to buy a bus ticket, it will be more or less as long but you won't have to drive.
What? Too long? Well, once you prove you're a good soccer player, you can buy a train ticket! Only 4 hours to spend on the train!
And one day you will be the new Messi, and you will be able to buy a plane ticket (or even own your own plane!)! Only 1h15 to get to Paris! Isn't that great?
What do you mean "It's stupid"? Well, ok, here's a solution for you Mr. QQ-my-time-is-precious, go live in Paris and you won't have to move, sounds easy enough?
I really wonder why they didn't even tought of it ?...
