From the Starter System to where?!
Hi guys,
I've been playing ED Horizons for a few hours but at this point I was engaging in mining operations but I really need to upgrade the current ship or maybe buy another one more fitted for this type of operations.

I currently have the Basic Sidewinder but I don't have any Limpets module because I don't see them available to buy within the Dromi or Matet so I believe I'll have to go out to somewhere else to have access to better equipment like the Controllers, Prospectors, Scanner, and other improvements. I am quite green about the game cartography and the map it's quite complicated for me yet. In time I believe I'll get the hang of it but for the moment I am confused and I want to find the Limpets, the Controllers and a better Refinery to help me ease the mining process for cashing a nice amount of Credits and then try and progress from there.
So I come here asking for sugestions about where should I go.
Where and wich Station would be a great place to make like my HomeStation where to use as storage and at same time have access to more advanced equipement that will be usefull most of the time?
Probably I will not stick with mining operations only and I will expand to other activities aswell so a nice balance to a allround activity placement Station would be great.

UPDATE:
I am playing in Solo Player as I am not looking for PvP anytime soon.
I have no idea how and why I was able to find the Controllers and the Limpets in the same station I have looked for about 10 times and they were not vailable but noe they are. Trying to figure out why did not show up before and now it does. Anyway I can save around 100.000 cash untill I arrive at my final destination then invest to buy a better ship and a nice mining build to farm Credits and progress from there.
Sugestions about a cheap ship and build to start would be awesome too.
Thank you!

You should be able to find a collector limpet controller in HR 8061. They are generally found in systems with extraction and industrial economies. You can use filters on the galaxy map to find such systems. In this case I cheated and used https://eddb.io/ to find a place near you .
Limpets are available under advanced maintenance at pretty much all stations and outposts.

That being said, it might be a bit to early for you to go mining. The Sidewinder simply doesn't have the internals for it. Ideally you want both a prospector and collector limpet controller for laser mining + a good amount of cargo space.
Maybe start out with some data/cargo delivery missions, planetary scan jobs (make sure you understand the crime and punishment system if you do the illegal ones) or low ranked assassination missions if you're into combat.

Once you have half a million or so to buy and outfit a Cobra 3, you can start to get into mining. There are also some Adder builds if you want to get started earlier, but the Cobra is just a really good ship.

It's also a bit early for you to pick a home station. Just stick around the beginner zone for now. Try things out. When you have an idea of what you like to do and you're ready to leave the beginner zone, you can start looking into a home station.

I've recently just started myself, watched a couple of vids on good stations to 'call home'. Settled on a station called Ray gateway.

Picked up and just flew straight out there. Stations pretty decent having everything I've had to need to buy so far. Went to work and just got my first cobra mk III. Started out just running stuff between stations and doing bounties at mining sites (Eve training paying off lol.) in my sidewinder, just maxed cargo cap as much as I could and found a couple of profitable of things to move between stations. Skipped the hauler and adder as I've read alot of good things about the cobra as an all rounder to start out in.

I always recommend setting up in Li Yong-Rui space because all systems where his control reaches gives you a 15% discount on all ships and modules. LHS 20, ohm city is a rather popular homebase in that region that might be worth a look.

As for your next purchase, I'd recommend saving up to ~500k and get yourself a Cobra Mk3. It's got quite a lot of module space for its size and price, and can be made decent at most tasks.
Mining in the Sidewinder is gruesome, I tried it and left mining for a while.

Any system would do really, some high population ideally, close to main star, active trading with nearby systems, etc.
My home for a while was Ehecatl, worked well.

Just doing missions and increasing rep with local factions will pay off quickly, be mindful of rank suggested especially for combat missions. for trading missions as long as you know how to evade interdiction, you should be fine.

One other advice would be if you want to come up with some early cash quickly, is to do road 2 riches. Get a Hauler, fuel scoop, best FSD you can buy, detail surface scanner, and go explore near the bubble. https://www.spansh.co.uk/riches
that should easily get you 10-20mil in few hours

good luck! and take your time, enjoy the ride! o7

Did some research and tried EDDB and it seems that Ray Gateway it's one of the most choosen by a lot of players either begginers and experienced so it must be a great option. If I saw it right seems to me that it's in a big system with so many bodies and a lot of oportunities when it comes to all kinds of activities and it has a complete Station with all the services.
Now I just need to figure out how to get there that I guess will take ages. Ahahah
Oh, and I can;t forget to take the Hangar with me...

I really apreciate all the sugestions as they where quite helpfull on my research and decision.
Thank you everyone!

You can put modules into storage (and ships too). Later, you can have them transferred to whatever station you're at. So you don't have to worry so much about "leaving them behind". It does require time and money to transfer them though. The farther away, the more money and time it takes. Once you get situated, you can check the stored module list (and ships if necessary) and start moving stuff as necessary. The fees are typically pretty low as long as stuff isn't very far away. Of course, if you're just starting out, you probably don't have a lot of money to spare... but in the future, fyi!

newbies these days in elite have amazing start, do a few missions on the boards and you can have a very nice little nest egg to get a pretty good starting ship.

they throw credits at you almost as the missions are simple.

they even give you a 100k just to leave the starter system

before you leave make sure you have a fuel scoop with out it you will be like many other's who get stranded and dont know what to do with out fuel.

and once you have your fuel scoop goto your galaxy map and filter out the stars which dont give you fuel.
the first that includes a,b,g,m, o there is a couple others but mind blank.

LHS 20 would be my choice of starter home base.

Tip : honk every system
this means discovery scanner is bound to a key and hold it down till you hear a big honking noise.
doing this will net you credits for each system you visit, and will help you with exploration points.

best of luck out there Cmder o7

*BEFORE* you leave the starter zone. Take all the missions you can. As soon as you leave they will fail and automatically pay out since you won't be able to go back in and complete them. Should get you about 400-600k to play with for the trouble.

eddb.io will become your best friend finding stations with what you need, and just about everything else the game has to offer.
