yes, the Corvette is awesome, a Cutter and an Anaconda or a Python is nice tyo keep around also.
great ima stick to the andaconda
im prob just gonna stick to the andaconda im prob gonna do a type 10 at some point for the fun of it
Most fun to fly but still deadly ship is the Krait MK II in my experience, It is a good blend of firepower, dual tanking, and maneuverability. (the cockpit view is also a bonus)
For mining i would suggest starting in the Python or Krait MK II, and then possibly moving on to the corvette or t-10. Surviving in a mining fit T-9 can be ... problematic.
Krait Mk2 is also pretty darn good with the SFL added bonus. Python as well can be devastating.
With an engineered Anaconda or Corvette, you'll probably show up to a HAZ RES and blow up everything on the first volley without the NPC even realizing what's going on.
EDIT: and oh yeah, I second that Python is my favorite miner for sure, easy to maneuver through the asteroid fields, can do all laser, and core mining with ease, carry near 200t of cargo (or more if you ditch some class 5 collectors), decent jump range, and can avoid interdictions without breaking a sweat, AND can land in any station or outpost.
My fav ship for combat (and works with other tasks) is the Krait Mk2. I love the SLF, they are really fun and I find the looks of the krait really appealing although looks are subjective. IMO it is a step up from the python for combat although python is better for other tasks.
Anaconda with a fighter hangar.
