Genetic sampler
I just discovered first "plants" and was able to get one sample. There were lots of other plants of the same type but i was not able to collect them with my sampler because i am getting an error message which tells me something like "specimen not available" and "not enough genetic variety" or something like this. But in order to sell the specimens, i need to collect 3 of them but after the first sample, i cannot collect more?

You need to scan for the best samples, iirc youll need samples from 3 different plants to make a full discovery. Also you can board your ship and unload samples and take more.

You need genetic diversity from samples and that means you have to travel a decent distance away from where you got one sample to collect another.

Ok i get it. But i do not see any samples in my inventory. When i want to board my ship and select the inventory option, there are all different items to load to the ship but nothing that seem like a sample i collected

The sample is stored in the sampler. You can only take it out once you have collected 3 partial samples. Which means you have to scan 3 of each plant before scanning another. If you scan another plant, while you have an incomplete sample stored, ithat one will be burned and you have to start over with that plant.

In my experience, most of the time these type of plants can be found easily with some space inbetween. Just walk (or drive with SRV is better) maybe 200-300 meter further and get another sample of the same species. There is sort of a radius around where you have gotten a sample already in which another scan will tell you about genetic diversity. So just collect the other samples of the same plant species from a specimen that is a bit further apart. Usually about 300 meter or so is far enough of a distance for the genetic diversity to be good again.

It depends on the plant, most I've found had a range of 500-800m. But i've also seen a few with as low a range as 150m. It tells you the exact distance in the codex page of that plant.

*sigh* now i get a pink viper error each time i collect a specimen -.-

At least you found something. I'm out in the deep and I must be unlucky I can't find anything.

You cannot find samples on every planet. If a planet does not have anything to analyse, go elsewhere. I think only planets with an atmosphere have genetic stuff.

I found I got that error if it's something I have sampled previously I thought they fixed that

They didnt. It is exactly that problem: I crashed over and over again and when i found a new plant, i could analyse it perfectly. When i then saw a plant i analysed yesterday, it suddenly told me the sample has already been sold. So there is some error during synchronisation or whatever. Sometimes it just does not tell you that you have already seen this sample.

yeah thats exactly the issue. I had that issue in the alpha

You need to find a planet with biological readings in the FSS. From that, probe the planet and you will be given a heat map of where these biological sites can be found.

If you have more than one biological sign, you will have options to filter between two or more signals, altering the heat map for each reading. Sometimes these can be all over a planet, and I've found the best place to look is generally where there terrain is mostly flat.

I tend to remain in orbital flight (I use orbit lines, so between the outer blue ring and above the orange ring that will take you into glide) and look for a blue heat covered area that generally looks flat. Once I'm happy I'll head down and travel across the surface at around 200 metres (any biological signs should appear at this distance) and continue until I decide my luck is out. If this happens, I'll head back into orbital flight, pick another area and rinse repeat.

I've literally just found a planet with 4 biological signs and I found them all pretty easily. I think a lot of this is practise and knowing what to look for, though I think what I have posted here should definitely improve your situation.

I do not use the FSS at all, i just approach the planet and approach it and look for the plants from my ship. Once i found something I board my SRV and roam around. Had 3 different discoveries yesterday. That FSS approach seems nice. The FSS is that "Frequency" thingy where i can discover all planets in a system, isnt it? I have to try that out.
