Very lame FDev!
I have seen this suggested by a few people, but that doesn't work for me. When I launch in 2D mode, the 3D option under Graphics only had side-by-side and anaglyph, even if SteamVR is running at the time.
The only way I have found of running Horizon in VR is what RavenStorm described above. Launch in VR, and wait for Odyssey to load, then exit, select Horizon, and hit Play.
They messed this up too, along with everything else.
Update: maybe I don't have to wait for Odyssey to load? I'll try Alt-F4-ing out of it as soon as it starts. Should save a couple of minutes if that works. Still dumb though, even if that works.
Back in the day, there was a drop down on the main menu to choose ED or EDH. Just another thing Odyssey omited.
I have an Index. I also need to launch in VR mode, and get Odyssey too, but if at that point you quit out of Odyssey, the launcher will have the option to select Horizons, and when you restart the game from the launcher, at that point you get Horizons in VR. Or at least, I do.
It's stupid that they didn't think this through but then again, it's not exactly surprising, is it?
BTW, I love the irony that a player with an Odyssey HMD prefers not playing Odyssey ;).
I guess it's that plus that makes all the difference!
I'm pretty sure I tried that method with the launcher, but maybe I'll try again. Odyssey is impossible to run for me in VR. Even if I could stomach the bad frame rates, all my controls are broken. It;s really bad.
I run Elite Dangerous from Steam and got Odyssey installed..
To start Horizon in VR without uninstalling Odyssey, just rename the map in Steamapps/common/Elite Dangerous/Products named elite-dangerous-odyssey-64,
Worked fine for me...I just put an _ (underscore) as first character in the map name..
Then started the game in VR from Steam..voila
There's not irony at all. Odyssey was about MORE than the stupid space legs garbage. For those of us VR players, it was about the beautification of exploration--the better visuals. We KNEW that the FPS aspect in VR would simply be the (lazy) pancake cinematic presentation within VR, but we were told early on that a lot of the improved visuals and planetary tech would be in the core game as well. Many of us purchase the alpha entirely to see that new and improved visual experience. Sadly, it turns out that the VR quality in Odyssey is significantly BELOW that of Horizons. So, we run the game in Horizons mode so we can still enjoy the game as before.
I think that somewhere along the way, you may have missed my weak attempt at a joke.
