[SOLVED] No ship at start of Odyssey
So i've bought a game few years back and played like two hours (movement tutorial basically). Now I bought dlc, cleared my save file, started playing, finished on-foot tutorial, and finished on some station. Then I picked up a mission, tried to book a shuttle to fly for it, but was instantly killed by level geometry right after booking a shuttle.
I don't know where am I (right now somewhere at the station station called Baxter's Exile) and I have no ship. I've googled up some discussions here, that said that to obtain my first ship I should go to somewhere called ' Inter Astra ', which is a ship vendor, and I will be assigned my first ship. But there's no such thing on Baxter's Exile and there were none on three stations I was before (just randomly getting Apex Shuttles).
Some answer on Steam Forum said that you just need to go to ship vendor. But i don't know where the ♥♥♥♥ is the ship vendor, and game does not telling me this.
WTF is this, how should I play it? it feels like i'm constantly battling some sort of game designer's zero ♥♥♥♥♥ given.

You don't get a ship on an Odyssey fresh save, you can in fact play the entire game without owning one. You can buy tickets for a taxi at any port.

Not sure about fresh save but when I finished the tutorial last night I had my credits, avatar, and cobra from pre-odyssey in the station. I did have to reload the save I think though.

Enter in Horisont, buy from there a ship, and that ship will be first you ship in Odissey. Important is to not create a new caracther, bjt to use, character who have ship. With accomplished missions in time, from shipyard, you buy another ships.

Oh my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ god.

Okay, I figured it out.

So, to get ship on your first playtime of elite (when starting with Odyssey), after finishing on-ground tutorial, you need to:
1) close a game
2) launch Elite Dangerous (the vanilla one)
3) try to load the game
4) get a message that "you are near the planet terrain and your game client does not support terrain generation, do you want to be teleported to orbit"
5) agree
6) start on infinite loading screen because the game does not know where to place you
7) launch Elite Dangerous: Horizons, start game and be stuck with infinite loading there (don't know if this step is mandatory)
8) launch back the Elite Dangerous: Odyssey
9) load the game
10) voila! you are on orbit with a starting ship.

This support of newcomers is just unbelievable.
Also thank you, @Edelweiss, for your perfect answer that does not answer anything at all.

I know this thread is old but thanks for your post. I also started in Odyssey exact same problem. I logged into horizons got my ship. I tried the Elite Dangerous Discord and got a Learn2play when all I did was get the darn game and complete the ground mission. Almost quite Elite D on the spot. having to go around asking hey what do I do now that i finished the ground mission... and getting a learn to play thrown in my face. If it wasnt for your post and putting up the answer, I would gotten a refund for the game. Elite D really needs to smooth that stuff out. Start in Odyssey and freaken guide you to your spaceship and starter missions. and if you dont have a ship to give you one.
Yea no wonder they seem like a hot mess still..
Versus Eve where I went in and smooth as butter and playing the game just fine.
Elite D better get their act together soon.

You honestly think the ED community is more toxic than EvE's?
Please.
I agree with your premise that Odyssey should provide a starter Sidewinder but I think the devs aimed the expansion at existing players rather than new players. That is a mistake in my opinion.
However if you went onto discourse shouting that you never had this problem with EvE then expect a certain level of animosity. Ex EvE players have a certain reputation.
As an aside can I ask why you quit EvE? Was it the subscription hike? Or some other reason?
Anyway good to hear you now have the situation resolved.

Odyssey does provide a loanwinder.

Not sure what is going on w /necrothread, but at least OP got it sorted. =)
