Too dark/ Gamma does not work
There is something wrong the Gamma. Planets and suns seem fine, but the skybox is incredibly dark and I am no longer able to see nebulas. The bright spots are fine but anything that is dark gets washed out with the overall black background. Ship HUD is also extremely dark and text is barely readable.

Adjusting the in-game Gamma values does not have any effect (it does not get brighter nor darker) and adjusting SteamVR brightness has no effect either. Some players who use a regular monitor are reporting the same issue so it does not seem to be purely a VR thing (thread: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/why-is-everything-so-dark.575390/#post-9178587)

Please contribute here if you are having the same or similar issue: https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/31324

Yep, the lighting is super borked, also stars coronas are on super low resolution and engine trails are extremely ugly now with almost no special effects on them. Not to mention the horrible UI for stations, outfitting and the galaxy/system maps. What a shame, i really have no idea how they managed to break the game this way, especially with the UIs which were simple, clean and functional now its a buttom mess.

They call it upgrade lol.

Total mess for me.

Yeah I do notice everything is darker. In a way the dark side of the planets look great and more realistic. Also now I actually have a reason to use nightvision and headlights.

Does not sound like you are experiencing the same issue as us then. If you are so inclined we still appreciate an upvote under the above linked bug submission.

Thank you :)

Same as an ingame gamma slider is supposed to work.

Dark and broken lighting are two different things. Make sense?

If people aren't experiencing the same issue there is really no need to comment. If you are unsure just check out the bug report I linked in the OP.

occasionally after moving from various ui elements in the cockpit (1-2-3-4 keys) the whole ui goes dark, the ship just lost power. opening the game menu and returning changes it again, but still duller than it was 5 minutes earlier, its like there is some sort of filter overlaying the games colour. making it all seem like a those daytime drama's with a haze over the scene.

Honestly, it doesnt feel like its the gamma, but the exposure settings. like the game assumes youre in a super lit room and turns everything dark - hence gamma options wont help. Noticed its way better when the game actually thinks youre in the dark.

Yeah, Colors are a bit…off. Darker in general but some paint jobs appear quite different than the store screenshots. Some paint jobs look like a matte finish when they used to be reflective (Azure paint job) and some that used to look matte are now reflective (Midnight Black).

Well, since no one is looking, I'll just leave this here.

Should my chat or other panels also be dark in space?

Yes, I have noticed this too. The game seems to dynamically change the lighting depending on what you are looking at. For example if I am looking at a sun, the background skybox suddenly lights up and looks more like what it should be. I have also noticed that when I change the SteamVR brightness the skybox will look like it should, but the moment I move my finger off the mouse the skybox reverts back to how it looked originally, while the brightness slider stays at the maximum Ijust set. The skybox only changes as long as I leave my finger on the left mouse click while changing the slider.

Thanks! I will look into this, pending a fix.
