Elite Dangerous

Will my PC run odyssey?!
Hello all, quick question, excuse my ignorance please.
I have been reading the specs required to play and i pass everything but the cpu. I'm currently using "Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz 3.30 GHz"
My motherboard is reasonably old now, MSI P67A-C45 and i don't think i can add the cpu mentioned in the minimum requirements.
Could anyone with a bit more savvy than myself advise on if this will work? My RAM and graphics card are fine and meet the requirements.
I don't have the funds to upgrade entire pc currently so i was hoping to Frankenstein it till i can afford.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

your cpu is as fast as an haswell 4590. you cant put a haswell cpu on your mainboard between, but if you have a gfx card like a 1060 or rx 580 minimum you will be able to play it.

You should be able to run Odyssey since it isn't quite as CPU intensive as some other games, question is more if your GPU is between minimum or recommended specs.
You CPU boosts to 3.7 and can boost a tad higher with a tiny OC, with one of the good well known air coolers or good AIO it won't even break a sweat.

Thanks for the rapid response!!! i have a gtx 1050i. I hope this works. I dont mind extended loading times, im used to this and i only play on my own so its not like im holding the lobby up like i do in r6s. I love elite and its the only reason (one of) i bought a PC and transferred my xbox account over.
Thanks again. I'll try it out, worst case scenario it doesnt work and i get a refund off the good old steam folks. o7

you will be able to play it but noone can gurantee how much fps you will have in stations or in fps combat. the alpha ran really really bad and we all can only hope that odyssey now will run a bit better. iam sure they will also work and fix performance issues, so i would recommend you buy odyssey if you enjoyed elite.

A 1050Ti should be fine below high settings at 1080p for Odyssey.
I would kill shadows and ambient occlusion to gain more fps while still having descent textures and other details going.
Actually I even turn those 2 down while having everything else at max with a 2080S, not for performance but to have the card running at pretty low temperatures.

I would start with settings on Low and then see what frame rate you get (ctrl+f).

If it's solid 60fps in the space station, on foot, try medium.

Then tweak individual settings upwards until you get a balance between frame rates and appearance.

This video covers every single graphics setting in Elite (Horizons), along with the effect on FPS. Really worth a watch whilst taking notes:

Also got a 1050 here, but only like a 2.7Ghz I5 processor, and ED runs smooth as butter 95% of the time. Or ran. I've yet to test how it fares now in Odyssey. But I bet you should have a solid experience with your setup.
