They arent close to being comparable. Depends on what you want out of a game. If you want another EVE, this isn't it. If you want a 1:1 scale milky way and a flight simulator, this may be for you.

Two completely different games. Honestly, I like Elite far more. Got tired of the endless politics of EVE after some 3500 hours.

However, i DO wish FDev would loosen the leash and allow the economy to be player driven, maybe even add manufacturing of certain goods for sale.

Totally different games. I personally don't like Eve (those point and click controls are an immediate no for me in any game). Elite is a different game with no player driven economy or such, but Elite is the game that is far more to my preference. However, that may not necessarily be the case for you.
Like people said they very different, from my limited experience with EVE id say there you command your ship, here you fly your ship. Its like the difference between being the commander and being the pilot, for me being the pilot was way more fun :)

only exploration and mining is comparable.

yeah, if elite took eve type of player driven economy, elite would become priceless masterpiece of gaming.

i like eve a lot. and elite too. for now, my time with eve is over. that could change and i could switch back. but not now.

its all about space. if person is thrilled by cosmos, both these games are worth to play.

You might as well ask what is better? Age of Empires or Quake?

This of course is almost as bad as asking if Mario is better than Final Fantasy. Although not quite because they are the same genre.

I like and play both for completely different reasons.

No, yes, maybe.

Two completely different games. I haven't played EVE is 7-8 years, but last I played, it was a waiting simulator more than a game... Launch skill learning X, wait Y days, come back, do it again... The only skills Elite has are that of the player.

Eve is an MMO, where you point and click stuff to act, while in Elite you actually pilot your ship.

Basically, they only share 2 things : they both happen to be in space, and they both require that you accumulate some wealth to rebuy your ship when you die.

Ignore this assessment, there is no reason someone would need to wait until a skill is complete, just go do innumerable other activities.

Unless you're bored to death and need that skill to start something new. Then "any other activities" will be anywhere but in the game.

Tons of things to do in Eve besides sitting in station. Even as a noob.

Exactly. Once you've put in thousands of hours, yes, it gets boring. Found any games that dont?
