G5 Manufactured material farming
Honestly i love this game but this is the only thing killing it for me right now, i can reliably farm every other material through jameson crash site, then do crystal shard planets for raws. But when it comes to G5 manufactured materials it really makes me want to stop playing with how much time it takes. Doing dav's hope and trading up doesnt give you enough g5 mats and doing HGE's is super annoying and time consuming. Am i stuck with this slow crap forever or is there a better way?

I can't really say. Haven't really had probs farming G5 mats via HGE.
There are ways to 'cheese' it once you find a HGE you like(atleast longer than 20+ min to expire). via exit out to desktop then log back into CLIENT ... But I never really needed to do that.

The hard to get for me were for Military Supercapacitors and maybe Pharmaceutical Isolators(think I got these out of MISSION REWARDS mostly EDIT2: or Anaconda drops.. I do a lot of massacre missions)

Military Supercapacitors are extremely rare.. (thank RNG gods I dont use High Cap mods much) I think only found it once.. that was years ago.

All the rest is me complaining it's not Military Supercapacitors dropping.. lol

Federal systems:
Core Dynamics Composites
Proprietary Composites

Imperial systems:
Imperial Shielding

Civil Unrest system states:
Improvised Components

War or Civil War system states:
Military Grade Alloys
Military Supercapacitors

Outbreak system states:
Pharmaceutical Isolators

Boom system states:
Proto Heat Radiators
Proto Light Alloys

EDIT: Opps.. if you are having prob finding HGE.. higher population systems with said states will help (i can't prove that high pop make HGE pop more but that is from my experience)

Best way to do any and all Manufactured material farming is to go to imperial space (i like to farm in Achenar) or any other high tech system, find your HGE with 25+ mins left on it, farm the Imperial Shielding and trade that for all other mats at the materials trader. The shielding is the most abundant G5 Mfg mat in the game.

so don't fly around looking for specific types of Mfg Materials, just load up on the Imperial Shielding and trade for the stuff you need. Using the above method mentioned you can get 100 (max qty) in about 20 mins, then go trade it and come back for more if you need it.

Yeah, HGE is horrible. They should really increase the quality and quantity of Manufactured from Ship Kills.

I also think they should (have) had a lot more quality for surface salvage. Like those random wrecks you might find out of nowhere on the surface (They're instanced). Make those yield tons of Manufactured, perhaps even using the same rules as HGE already but just surface, because scooping in the SRV is WAY less painful than scooping in space.

Hehe.. I can add... those HGE that spawn 250 000+ ls from the point of entry

The engineer system in general is just frustrating. I spent the past 4 hours messing about with it and it just feels like a waste of time.

I've heard they're doing something about this in Odyssey, and I hope it's more organic and engaging by far than this. Friend who got me into Elite in the first place barely plays anymore because they aren't engineered and can't bring themselves to grind as is.

Engineer is not that much of a grind. Everyone wants everything instantly and free. Engineered items are powerful and should be some king of work.

70ly Jump should take some work.

Yep. Engineering is not flipping a switch, it's a process that is spread through sub-processes of unlocking, collecting mats, doing upgrades... If you don't "farm" it, but play it - it works just fine.

Of course, if you want to have your ship completely engineered from zero by a finger click, then you will find it to be tedious. But it wasn't designed to work like that, to begin with.

That would be a good change.

Do you by chance have any citation? Because all I know about Engineering in Odyssey is that we'll be doing a lot of it, probably just like ships, we'll have at least 3 suits engineered for different purpose, and who knows how many guns/tools.

How many G5 do you realistically need? I don't always G5 everything anyway as its generally excessive for PvE (except for FSD on the exploration ships, then that is maxed).

Have you tried the HGE Exploit?

(Land in an HGE with 15 minutes or more lifespan, farm it, exit to desktop, login, FSD and go to the unknown signal right behind your ship (another HGE)

i think manufactured mats are easiest to get. just fly to the site and release drones, go drink coffee or beer.
as for more rare components, material trader solves that completely.

and as for me, i have almost always collector controller and 20 drones with me.
arriving new system, honk, check for hge. first thing to do. in few days i am forced to go to material trader, for my inventory is full with some sort of mats. zero problems with these kind of mats.
most tedious i think are raw mats to get.
encoded are also easy to farm with jameson crash site. no prob there too.

i very early took advice from yt about starting collecting mats are engineer rep early on. never had problems with them.

Robigo passenger missions are also good for G4 and G5 mats and data. I've got loads doing those.
