Elite Dangerous
What HOTAS/controller setup do you recommend?
I want to get back into the game, but this time fully enjoy it by using a hotas or whatever I need.

I like my 16000m and TWCS throttle. Probably the best in that price range.

The logitech 3Dpro is serviceable and much cheaper, but I of grew out of it.
Thrustmaster T.16000M is by far the best. It feels like it was made for ED. I have both the 16000M and the warthog. I could not resist the all metal design of the warthog, hence why i upgraded. I used the 16000M for about a year before upgrading without a problem. I keep it in a box, because if the warthog ever breaks, I am just going back to the thrustmaster. Even though I could aford a new one. It is that good.
I use a Warthog with my main gaming machine, but bought a T16000M FCS for a laptop, when I want to have some light E:D flying. They both have Hall effect sensors, and the controls don't drift even with 0 dead zones.

Thanks everyone for the reactions!
I hear many good things about the T16000m fcs so I'm checking that one out for sure!

Does anyone have experience with ''Logitech extreme 3D Pro joystick''? I can get that one for like 15€

and what is the difference between ''T16000m fcs'' and ''T16000m''

Also: What are your thoughts on pedals?

T16000m is just the stick! You want it with the throttle though!! fcs comes with both...
you need pedals if you go with the expensive warthog because it has no z axis....
and you need to get a seperate throttle too

It's a good entry joystick, and it can serve you hundreds of hours in this game before it slowly wears off.

I was playing E:D with it a lot. Even without a throttle (it uses a little stick at the base) it has a pretty good number of buttons. You can map most of immediately needed controls by using two of base buttons as modifiers.

But this joystick has pots as analogue sensors, so it's not as good as the T16000M one. Some dead zones are needed for it not to drift. And with time, as the pots wear off, you will need to increase the dead zones.
I've had my T flight Hotas for 10years. It had hundreds of hours of IL2 on it before I discovered ED.

Still going strong as ever :steamhappy:

I can vouch for my Saitek x52 Pro - but, as it's the only joystick I've ever had, I can't give any comparisons. If this one ever breaks, I'd happily buy another.

+1 on this. My X52 Pro is by far the best flight controller i've owned, and i've had several. I did modify it within a week of buying it, but it truly has been a game changer for me.
I liked not having to use flight pedals, when using the T16000m. I got the package that had the thrustmaster pedals included. They are horrible. When I got the Warthog, I got the T-Rudder Mk.IV. They were ok, but I did not find them comfortable. So I went ahead and bought MFG Crosswinds. They really are amazing pedals. Night and day different/better quality then the rest. But to be honest, I would have preferred the warthog to have a twisting mechanic like the T16000m.
T16000m is a great flightstick. Since i play VR i also got a razor tartarus chroma for the other hand.

Yeah, X52 Pro is trully briliant.

Basically the advice is:
Buy somewhere where you can return either
HOSAS (2x T1600)
or
HOTAS X52 Pro (I like materials and SW works well)

And see if you like HOSAS or HOTAS. I bought HOTAS first and stuck with it. Although I tried HOSAS with ED recently and I liked it a lot.
Those I feel are two best options and you have to select simply what feels better for you.

I bought the ''T16000m fcs'' and start playing with HOKAS (hands on keyboard-and-stick) this monday!

I could get just the T16000m fcs for a really good deal.
I'm using saitek/logitech x52 pro and I'm fine with it.

I use the Logitech 3D Pro - it is great for this game - twist yaw. Great.
Saying that I also have own a Thrustmaster Warthog which is totally unsuitable for this game - too heavy, too slow, no twist yaw. Just because it costs alot doesn't make it better for Elite.

Spend that money on Pedals - get some pedals. I have up, down, left and right thrust assigned on my pedals, twist yaw on the joystick - perfect.
