Elite Dangerous

Suggestion: Stop mission timers when I log off for bed?
I think mission timers should only tick when I am actually in game!!!!!!

You'll soon figure out how long things take you.

One thing to be aware of, if you fail a mission because it times out, you only take a small reputation hit.

You take a bigger hit if you abandon it.

So if you think you are not going to finish a mission in time, just let it expire, don't abandon it.

Well. It is what it is I guess. May have to wait until star citizen or go play naval action for a bit. ;)

Have you considered the possibility that perhaps E:D isn't the right game for you?

I mean, games from the X saga will meet those requirements, E:D won't.

As for Star Citizen, it might adopt the same kind of approach as E:D in this regard.

Yes I am considering it right now. But I do like multi coop and have friends that play it. I am a fan of simulators in general. Elite does a good job and ticks most of the boxes. I will just have to see how I go one mission at a time.

Is this true? Not that I've timed out or abandoned too many missions, but I didn't notice any difference. Where does your info come from?

I was under the impression that abandoning them was better than timing out, due to a nerf that 'prevented' people from mass abandoning missions in order to ♥♥♥♥ with the BGS.

Partially experience, partially "common knowledge" (yeah, i know, this can be wrong), but i think the devs have confirmed this.

You're thinking of influence impact. People used to abandon missions to trash influence. Abandoning now doesn't hurt (or seriously) the influence of the faction you took the mission for, it does hurt your reputation though. And if you keep abandoning, you soon find yourself with a hostile rep and very few missions you can take.

I don't quite understand how your enjoyment of the game depends on missions waiting for you...
Missions are not something you have to keep doing. Neither are you going to be judged harshly for failing some of them. Do them to make money when you need it, or when you are out of ideas as to what else to do.
Take those that fit in your schedule, but don't sweat it if you cant finish some of them. I have abandoned or timed out many missions - yes, even the generous week long ones, life is a thing for many people. Some, I just did not want to finish, others timed out while I was offline, so what? I lose a bit of reputation with one small local faction... if I care about that factions opinion of me, I can easily make it up to them by doing another mission, hunting criminals for them, or fighting in their wars.

And in some cases NPC hit-men chasing you across the galaxy (great fun)

"stop the galaxy from spinning"
I know where you are coming from but they give ample time.

When I first started playing the game, I didn't know how long missions would last. Some would take 10 minutes, and others a couple hours. That was annoying when I was pretty much forced to continue playing. Still, it would introduce other problems if you paused the timer. I learned to reject missions that had high payout, but would take way too long, like passenger trips to Colonia, massacres of more than 20 or 30 ships, or deep space missions to places like Lovelace terminal or Hutton orbital. You can make better money doing short range/duration jobs.

how would they know you are in bed...hmm

Let the timer stay, if missions won't fail i would keep getting then infinitely. (is this phrase right?)
As it is right now i just keep getting then until i die (sleep) in my pc, while my ship burn in an Star.
Just one more....."Wild morning light appears over the window."
Crap.
