But for future reference, if you're Elite in at least one category, Jameson Memorial in Shinrarta Dezhra has every ship/module in the game at a discount based on how many Elite levels you have. Ray Gateway in Diaguandri has 80% of the ships/modules in the game (because they are pirates).
That's a fascinatingly shallow opinion on a ship. Whatever you have managed to test of the ship in the nearly negligible time period of 20 hours of use, I have no idea.
Just a little addendum. If you can't find what you need at Ray Gateway, check the groundside base in the nearby planet. I once went looking for an 8A power plant that wasn't available in Ray Gateway, but they had it for sale at the planetary base.
Interesting. I mean, they're not the most common but they shouldn't be rare either. Back in the day, I'd run into those for sale every now and then.
Now I'm wondering if this is related to Core Dynamics buying Lakon and creating deliberate shortages on Lakon combat ships so as to steer the market towards Core Dynamics.
Have you checked in Alliance space? (I don't know if Lembava is an Alliance system, mind you).
Well, let's see... what have I been able to test?
Combat: Thick hull, but awkward hard-point placement. Maneuverability leaves much to be desired. Fighter bays not supported
Exploration: Jump range is lacking, fighter bay not supported.
Hauling: Max Cargo 122 tons
And it looks like a dog doing its business when it lands.
Hauling and exploration are of no relevance to test here since it's designed for combat to begin with, it's not a multipurpose ship.
All the hardpoints on the top have very tight grouping among each other, makes for easy use with fixed weapons since they will converge extremely well with each other. The nose-mounted hardpoint doesn't converge well with the others but being nose-mounted, it's very easy to use since it's set along the centerline. It doesn't have any blind spots in the upper bank of hardpoints unlike the Lance (you can squeeze a small fighter in between the Lance's blind spot). You'll usually want to save the nose hardpoint for a gimbal so that it can converge well with the hardpoints above, or to save it for a weapon that you won't be using all the time (like a shock cannon, anti-cell bank railgun, missile launcher, or corrosive multicannon/frag cannon, for instance).
I don't have the slightest idea of what you mean about the maneuverability, unless you tested it with stock thrusters. This ship does everything that the Delacy and Zorgon-Peterson ships can't do in terms of maneuverability, and it's fast enough to compete with a Lance (so it beats the Dropship and Gunship, the other armor tank competitors, in terms of speed by a significant margin). It has really good reverse thrusters so it can stop in very short distances (similar response to the Mamba and Gunship). Its vertical thruster set is exceptional (provides higher thrust output than in the Lance and both Kraits) and that comes in pretty handy for close quarters combat. It also turns sideways pretty fast (the Kraits have a poor response, in comparison). Unlike a Lance, it doesn't stall when making sharp turns upwards or downwards.
The thrusters have bigger hitboxes, are more exposed, and are easier to hit than in most other ships; you'll want to make sure you get some module reinforcement packages to compensate, assuming you're planning to put its heavy armor potential to use.
The two top-mounted utility slots have a pretty good and relatively unobstructed field of view. If you were to install point defence there, it would work pretty well on either side, but be mindful of the small blind spot along the central ridge. If you install one point defense only, you may have to slightly turn your ship towards the direction that the missile is coming from, if it's not on the same side as the point defence. The two bottom-mounted utility slots are likewise relatively unobstructed, and they get a slightly better field of view of the rear of the ship than the top-mounted utility slots.
Point defense is highly desirable on this ship not just because of the exposed thrusters, but also because missile strikes to the top of the ship can deal AoE damage to all the hardpoints given how tightly packed they are (the three small ones are harder to hit than the large ones and will rarely sustain significant damage from conventional weapons, but they will break pretty fast if you take missiles). Any explosive damage to the top of the ship can thus cripple its fighting ability even if the armor can shrug off the damage, and rapidly deteriorate your module reinforcement package durability due to how many modules are being hit at once.
Though having similar heavy armor potential to the Fed ships, it has a slightly higher armor hardness score so it negates a slightly bigger portion of the direct damage from smaller conventional weapons, compared to the Fed ships.
It also has a high radiator capacity. Does very well with thermally-intensive weapons or with anything else that causes heat spikes. If you're using cell banks with this ship and you're running it with an armored power plant, you can usually cycle a cell bank with no overheating and without having to use heat sinks, assuming you stop shooting your weapons while the shield is getting charged. Alternatively, if you wish to do a hull-to-shields conversion with guardian shield reinforcement packages, it will be better able to tolerate the extra heat (as well as the overcharged power plant that will be likely required) than the Fed Dropship and Assault Ship (the Gunship would be more or less on par with the Chieftain in this regard).
Don't get rammed, or ram other ships with this one. One might think it works well for ramming because of all the heavy armor you can stuff in it like with the Fed ships (all of which are very good for ramming), but even then, it will still have significantly lower mass. The only Alliance ship variant that can get away with ramming reasonably well, is the Crusader since it's the heaviest of the three.
When it comes to combat, I'll stick with either my Beluga or Orca. With a large PA and a pair of beam lasers, my Orca has netted me right around 1.25 billion in combat credits. With 3 large PA's and a pair of beams, my Beluga has more than doubled that, and when outfitted with 5 double-shot frag cannons, liquifies thargoids in right about 20 seconds. And when it comes to ramming... just look at the shape of the Orca... it looks like a... uh... ramming device? I named mine "Steely Dan" for a reason, and yes, it's chrome painted too.
Nobody uses stock anything if they can help it, and my Chieftain, Crusader and Challenger are all Grade-5 across the board. I just don't like them. I did manage to muster a little fun strapping Force Shell cannons to it and turning enemies into ping-pong balls, but that's really just goofing around - sure, it's effective, but so is strapping 5 pack hounds to a Beluga and simply making enemies beg you to put them out of their misery.
When it comes to small ships, I'll take the Imperial Courier any day - probably the best small ship out there. For mid-sized, I prefer the slightly better-armed and right-side up Federal Gunship. You already know my choice for large ships.
But really, that's all it comes down to - personal choice and preference. Yours are no more or less valid than mine, and we're both free to like what we like. Trying to convince each other of our "rightness" is an exercise in "wrongness" and we'll never get anywhere.
I own the Chieftain and is my favorite dogfighter-style ship so far, and by a long shot.

I also flew the Courier and the Vulture which I loved, still do, but the Chieftain is just better at everything, shreds everything with ease, and can take a beating.
As you said, that was my experience, I now own the Corvette but go back to the Chief very often for that "on your face" feeling. I would never, ever, ever, ever, ever, thought of outfitting a Beluga or Orca for combat, but good for you I guess :-).
Weapons alone the Chief is miles ahead, the Chief with 4 rails shreds everything is crazy.

Name a ship, I own at least one and have for at least two years. Flown every single one of them, even the upside-down Fer de Lance, better known as the Mamba. I'm also not a big fan of rails, though I do have a couple of ships that do use them - one I use to pirate NPC pirates, because, well, that's fun, and in addition to stealing stolen cargo, I can blow them up for bounties after - win-win, the other is an AspX with nothing but rails, and while it's fun while the ammo lasts, the ammo just doesn't last long.
By all means though, keep enjoying what you enjoy, and I'll keep doing the same, and we'll both be happy - just don't misquote me, especially when block-quoting is just a mouse-click away.
