Drive on normal gravity planets (around 1g).
I use assist off, and turret mode so I can see better where I'm going, plus feels less bumpy.
I use an xbox controller to drive the SRV
the key is patience and practice and patience and practice and patience and practice
on of my squad mates prefers to use an xbox controller just for the srv, might help you too. worth a look.
I use a hotas with no issues. cos.... yep you guessed it patience and practice
Why drive assist isn't off by default is anyones' guess.
On any low gravity planet, you will want to watch your speed and go slow compared to a high gravity planet, which allows you to drive faster and do sharper turns.
I use my pedals to steer. Works really well.
It then handles like any racing game; triggers to accelerate and brake.
Once you’re in the air the left analogue stick will control your orientation.
As someone who played a lot of racing games that control method was very intuitive compared to using my HOTAS.
